The long range forecasts are starting to turn around folks! I was starting to lose hope there for a while, but thankfully that Polar Vortex is loosening up and the cold is coming our way. I dont know about you guys but I just can't wait. Yeehaw!

I hope you are right. But im afraid the way the patterns have been it will warm up again before we get safe ice.

The long range forecast I've been watching is calling for a cold February. Hopefully we can still salvage a few good weeks of ice this season. Northern NY is the best bet for lengthy ice time. The forecasted weather is really similar to the winter of 2011 - 2012. Oneida did get a few weeks of safe ice that year. Keep them crossed guys...

even if it turns cold that water temp is warm , it will take awhile however instead of sitting home wishing for ice get out and fish some open water there are plenty of perch and gills willing to bite , and no matter where you are their is all year trout fishing fairly close so enjoy the year for what it is............. ps i did a experiment and i found that perch caught right now in open water are just as tasty as those caught on the ice ...........just saying

Real winter is only a week old, Cold air is starting to move in,after the new yr. you will get plenty of cold air.this snow will help cool the waters

I live in Oswego county and the extended forcast till jan 11 only shows 2 day time temps below freezing and no night time temps below 20 most being high 20's ......I don't for see being on ice near my house till feb anyways

Fished brant Saturday surface temp was 43 and 5ft down was 48 if we are going to ice fish we need some COLD!

They said this winter will be comparable to the one in 1987... 1987 was the warmest on record... This year is supposed to be the same if not warmer....

Not sure if everyone's just mad that their lakes have no ice but I'll be ice fishing up north in new York on wed. Ice will be here just might not be on the lakes you want it on. All the gears ready and I'll be at camp Tuesday night ready for wed morning.

I'll be on a little lake north of Saranac wed. Finally got my eye witness report it held a non over fishing buddy of mine this morning. Relax he was over 3 feet of water. But after these cold nights it will be fine. It's funny how three miles away the areas were being told is wide open but just up the road it's norder line ready. By next weekend things will be Rockin. Get in the car and take a drive worst case you drove around a beautiful area for half a day.

The foot of snow will slow down the ice making because it insulates the ice from the cold temps.
