Title: What do you guys run for main line?
Post by: x182dan on Feb 13, 2016, 07:44 AM
I already know what leaders to run just wondering what everyone uses for main line.  I am talking on a rod going for pike.  I recently got into catching them on a rod with bait instead of using a tip up.  Problem is I was using ice braid and when I got my first pike the pike basically spooled my line because my reel its not meant for that thick of a line 30lb ice line.  So just curious what you guys are running for main line on your rods.

I run 24# line on a 2000 series spinning reel.
On my smaller 1000 series reels I run 10 or 15 pound.

I run Tuf-Line Duracast or now Supercast which is Duracast's replacement.

For Rod and reels which are set as dead sticks, I use Okuma bait runners with 30lb ice braid.

I just run 8# trilene as long as they don't get hooked in the gut you shouldn't have a problem landed a couple pike this year on the jigging rod I usually jig for panfish waiting for a flag though biggest was only 28" just keep the drag light just my opinion
