Title: Did this ever happen to you?
Post by: wlatrout on Feb 19, 2019, 08:10 PM
Setting out on Olin jigging for trout this evening.Had one on the ice but it was slow, as it has been, so I thought I would tie on a swedish pimple with a minnow. 1" all chrome red flipper.looked like a winner. Tied it on trimed the tag end, checked the knot and procedded to pitch it toward the hole. Well SH!! I guess the line touched the lantern. Watched it go down the screen, no hits, guess it wasn't so hot after all.

Lmao!!!  Don't think I've ever thrown one down the hole but I cut the wrong side of the knot on the same jig 3 times this year!

Was out jiggin on maxi one night, had a buddy with that never ice fished before.

Well, i had one certain jiggin spoon that was hot at the time, let him use it for the night.
We were doing great especially my buddy, he had 4 fish on the ice..... then it happened, he touched the rod tip on the buddy heater trying to get adjusted in his seat. BYE-BYE!!!

That was the only jiggin spoon of that size and color i had too.

I cant recall losing any spoons that way, but i hVe dropped a reel down the hole. My wife bought me an ice fishing rod and when i first got started in this sport.  I remember it was called the wrist saver.  The pole handle had a bend in it and the reel stem had a matching bend.  Kind of hard to describe but to make it simple no regular straight stemmed reels worked on that rod.  My first trip to erie ever i set up in 30 fow and began to put the reel on the rod.  I fumbled and dropped her straight down the hole.  Watched it go all the way to the bottom on the vex.   I never did get to fish with that wrist saver rod.

Haven't ever done that... I have lost a pole through the hole one time as many of us have, however I caught mine 30 minutes later. It was on the end of a pond raised 16" crappie.

Had my new Milwakee fuel set up with a brand new 5" lazer and watched in horror as the auger came out of the chuck and straight to the bottom. Never even touched the sides of the hole. Took about half a second and gone. That was when they first started using drills. took a while to find an adapter back then.

LOL. Back 30,40 years ago all I had to fish with was gill poles, plastic reels and v-clamps to keep the rod off the ice, I don't know how many times I went to check a second pole, just to turn around and find that a trout had pulled the rig down the hole. Was spring fishing in Wisconsin years ago and found ice pole floating so I guess it happens to others also.

If anyone finds a 12 V 7ah hour battery on the bottom of Diamond Lake in Edwardsburgh Michigan, let me know. It happened several years ago when I accidentally kicked it.

I've also had several instances of getting my line too close to the front of the heater or too close to the top of my lantern. Fortunately, each time the jig fell to the ice and not down the whole.

I set my son up with my lucky lure and he got bored so he just kept letting line out to the bottom and reeking back up. One time when it was on the bottom he bumped the heater and cut the line, so I was out a lucky lure and 100’ of line.

I got you beat on that one. Last open water season I tied, or should I say thought I had tied on a brand new lindy rig baited it and twice in a row proceeded to toss it overboard and watch it keep on sinking haha. I no longer toss rigs into the water after baiting, I now drop it in the boat and reel it up to make sure it is attached haha.
