Eskimo Augers
« on: Nov 20, 2011, 09:01 AM »
What do you guys think about how these things perform on the ice? Im looking at an 8" drill.

Sorry to have so many Auger related questions on different threads, I just really dont want to regret the new auger purchase and end up wishing I would have went with another model.

Thanks

I have the Eskimo Shark Z51 10" auger. I took a guy Ice fishing with me last year and got the auger out. Pumped the primer, opened the gas vent and pulled the rope one time and she fired up. First trip for the year. The guy looked at me and said: Hard starting beast isn't it? I haven't had any trouble so far and have used it 2 years now drilling at least 20 holes per trip and sometimes 40 holes. The first year I went Ice fishing 14 times and last year only about 8.

You're asking a pretty basic question. There's a TON of Eskimo auger info in the auger sub-forum. What is the other auger(s) make/model that you're considering? What is it that is preventing you from buying one over the other? Price? Reliability?

Go over to the F.O.E.A.O. thread for pics and all the info you'll need on 'Mo's.  ;D

I have a 8" Stingray.  This will be the third year for it.  It starts on the first pull and cuts like crazy.  Lighter to carry then most, and cheaper then most.   Whats not to like.

I have a 9 year old Z51 with a 10 " bit, I have never had an issue with it.  It is definitely the best bang for the buck IMO.

only issue i have with my z71 is needing a new plug... i started a thread about it a few down. Its a $3 fix...
