So far we've lucked out. The top was all water and slush before this weather but now the cold and wind has flattened it out and locked it up. The only snow on the ice is the tiny amount that can hold on the surface thru this wind. We'll see how much snow tonight brings but the weekend is looking good.

Thanks for the ice report, coming in from Canandaigua on Sunday and going off from Godfrey, can't wait.   Hope the pressure crack firms up with the 15 degree nights

https://www.localsyr.com/news/local-news/oneida-lake-could-produce-its-best-walleye-fishing-season-in-over-30-years/
David Lemon, the Region 7 fisheries manager for the New York DEC, said, “We implemented a more restrictive regulation of 18 inches and three per day. Prior to that, it was 15 inches and five per day, in terms of what you could keep.”

Isn't the size limit 15" did I miss a regulation change ?

I reached out to Reg 7 DEC, this is the response from The Bureau of Fisheries - "The article apparently didn’t complete the thought.  We implemented an 18”, 3 per day size limit when the walleye population in Oneida was near it’s lowest point in the late 1990’s. However, after we saw a slow but steady population increase we changed the size limit back to 15” around 2005. We have maintained the 15”, 3 per day regulation since..."

So the current regs guide is correct, no change.

Thanks for the heads up. Googled Oneida walleyes and 3/1/2020 came up as the end. Now I see 15" as legal small size. See you in the AM...…….

David Lemon of the DEC also told NewsChannel 9 that they may increase the bag limit back to five walleye, if the population stays consistent.

They should wait a year, or two, Oneida will get pounded this year after all the publicity.

They probably will. Luckily nothing happens fast with the state.

Personally I am perfectly fine with 3 eyes but I do agree that it will hurt the perch population.

If they go to a 5 fish limit I would like to see a slot limit. One over 22 inches but they manage the lake for numbers not for size.

Hahahaha.....not exactly the way I'd describe it but I get your point. I release 'em all over 20", unless they get hooks in the gills.

I’m off the north shore almost to the middle. Lake is mostly glare ice with patches of snow scattered here and there. The patches of snow are 1-2 inches deep. Sitting on 10-11 inches of ice. 2/3 of black and the rest white ice on top

Thanks for the update. Haven't gotten my sled registered yet so I'm going to be legging the 70# pullover and gear. Last week I was in bed with pneumonia. So it's time to give the lungs a workout.
