any updates on ice conditions? I'm hearing 8-12" but wanted to be safe making a 3hr drive to the lake. Any help is appreciated.

Just got back from the island..I only had 10" out there...I saw 3 guys headed out from the park at 7.30 this morn...

Ya know, it's odd you guys are reporting.....nothing much, when I seen a facebook post claiming people are slaying walleye and I'm talking HOGS......the guy that reported this, with pics, is basically being crucified by other posts. "How dare you report how good we are doing"......**censored**!?! and here you guys are reporting......uhhhhh "not much to see here". Yeah, that's Great......you guys are great. Anyone reading this post........Walleye are Hittin' Big Time on Erie!! .....by the way, parking lots are being closed because of how many people are up there. What good is this site when A**hole's do not want to report "anything" other than......"Look at my catch".....LOL who cares! Bragging does not impress me nor does it do me any good.

Fished out of the state park today. Was a little late 745am lot had a hand full of spots left. Pretty crazy for a week day. Wind was howling on the ride out pretty cold. Set up fished 830-1230p marked 6 0 takers. Was back out 3-540p caught 5 keepers(no hogs just good eaters) threw back 8 shorts. Can't even imagine how crazy parking will be tom. 10 in. Of measured ice in both spots. Very slick bring creepers. Mark

Fished today.went out at 2pm. Shove out front of catawaba pretty nasty. Had to go a good distance south to go around it. Spudded all bad spots one shove had to go around went threw with one hit. All I can say is be extra careful def not the same ice as wed when we were out. Caught 2 one 7lbs.all I can say if going out is be careful and spud. We made it 3 miles out almost to f can.where we were 10 in. Of measured ice. Mark

when I flew to the island sat eve you could see lots of open holes off Catawba and green..This morn flyin back there still there but iced over with maybe 3 or 4 in of ice and some snow on top..if your goin out from Catawba go slow and spud..No fish is worth it...Right?

another site has posted that two quads went through of Catawba yesterday.
said it was confirmed by ODNR at the park. no injuries and all four guys walked back in.
just what I read and just posting this as a heads up to anyone heading out

If guys saw what I saw tues morn flyin back they might think twice before headin out...I love fishin but that's just scary...The good and bad ice looks the same right now and a spud wont go through 4" but a quad will.....Play safe guys.....;

lots of reports coming again, and a lot of truth to most of updates, but one common denominator is ice very sketchy everywhere. Still early in year. Play it safe.

Did not launch off the state park to day. We were in another area(pretty close) we felt pretty good about going out. Slow pick out there today ended up with 9 keeper walleye today 8 shorts and 10 perch between 2 of us. Current was ripping #7 pimple would not read. Had to drill a hole 5 ft away to see it. Crack where def. working today. The one bad one we crossed today shoved up about three foot while we were out. Had to go a ways down to find a spot back across. Please be careful forecast not looking good but let's hope for the best. Mark

p.s caught my first sheepshead ice fishing today.

Fished today in an area near Catawba. Had a great day didn't get out till 2 but from 4:30-6 they were on fire. Only one bad spot we had to cross. We had our Ramps but didn't have to use them. We were sitting on 8 in. Current nowhere near as bad as fri. Ended up with 9 keepers between my son and I and dumped 2 pigs at the hole. ( my gaf man was nocking them off my hook but that's another story ) our last day for a couple of weeks hopefully we get that good cold in feb. when the big ones really start showing up. Mark

Check out the modis there is no ice. A little around the islands and some floating back and forth depending on the wind. I did see an ice prediction model on channel 8 that said it should be locked up by the end of next week. Pretty much starting over but it's not to late yet. Hopefully no wind some cold nites and a little bit of luck. Mark

Launched off a spot close to the park on sat. There was 8 in of ice. Only made it out about half mile there was a bad shove. The spot my friend found to get through the spud went threw in one hit so we stayed on this side. Only ended up with three tough nite. Made it out today out of the park went out .62 miles we ended up with 5 and a couple nice perch. My son and his friend probley lost our limit at the hole but that is another story. Lol. Ice was 6in where we were today. Lots of walkers today we rode out both days. Going was real rough out of the park. Ice froze back pretty crazy got some good pics today. Mark
