Ice Breaking Trip
« on: Jan 04, 2024, 08:17 PM »
My son normally visits this time of year and we ice fish several CT River Valley waters.  But for the first time ever in January, we took the aluminum boat out to open water fish a trout stocked pond.  We plowed through about 30 yards of skim ice to reach the open deeper water.  He got four rainbows flyfishing and I got one on a jigging rod - just had to experience that ice fishing feel.  All were beautifully colored and released for another time when we finally get some fishable ice.

Nice!
My son, a fly fishing guide in CO, just sent me this pic;

I told him it was almost too big to use for bait in the salt...
