Sorry to here about your canceled cascade trip Bob,  I know a few in the group that's going to be way bummed out. Can't say 100% I can make this happen but I'll be watching the thread and see what you guys put together. It's tough for me with my screwy schedule now that I have a baby at home not to mention keeping the wife happy too.

Put me down as a maybe... It sounds like fun and I think I have the equipment to make it happen now... And since Cascade fell through for me, it would be fun to do something out of the normal... Where was the trailhead going to be for your trip?  North end or south end of the mirror lake highway?  I was up to Whitney Reservoir mid February last year on a snowmobile ride and wished I had my fishing gear... It was sure melting around Presidents day up there last year... Hope March isn't getting too skinny on snow... Later J

Checking map sources, it looks like the South Gate (Kamas end) is about 11 miles into Trial Lake and North Gate (Evanston end) is about 24 miles into the lake.  So the South Gate would be the gathering point for this trip.  I propose the date of March 4, 2017 (Sat) for the trip.  I would NOT like to attempt this trip unless at least 4 snowmobiles are signed up for safety.  More would be great, but 4 would be a minimum. So I'm in and that's one snowmobile.  Who's next?

Put me down as number two, long drive for me, but.... If that doesn't work, looks like Strawberry is close so we could go there and catch some big fish, but the snowmobile ride sounds like a lot of fun and I'd like to try it... I haven't ever fished trial is it good fishing?  I see lots of other lakes near by, I guess if they weren't biting at Trial there would be others to hit as well if needed... Later J

Meeting real early - like maybe 6:00 AM for breakfast in either Kamas or Heber City.  And yes, I envision this as a one day event.  I noticed on channel 5 weather last night that Trial Lake is at over 100" of snow right now.  That might create a problem for drilling holes through the ice if we have to dig down that much just to find the ice.   ;D

Probably won't be moving a lot to find fish anyway.... One of those mark and X and wait for the fish to swim by locations.. Seems I've never fished the lake I'm open to tips on the best area of the lake to try since we probably won't be able to move much... Looking at Google earth, I wonder if the inlet area would be good?  What are your thoughts??? J

I have never fished any of the lakes up there at any time of the year, so I really don't have any thoughts on it.  There are several lakes up there that we could fish and I don't have a preference.  If somebody on here has fished that area, I am open to suggestions for any of them.  There are 4 lakes in that general area and close to the main trial (Hwy 150) that could be fished; Trial, Washington, Lost, & Lilly.  Mirror Lake is another 6 miles in from the South Gate (Kamas end).

Starting to get closer, I think this will be a lot of fun... Snowmobile seems to be running great and the Smitty sled pulls well so this should be a good time... Anyone else know of this area being fished much in the winter?  I'm thinking that I will go with the light weight gear as much as possible, don't want to have to carry more than I have to, I am concerned with drilling a deep enough hole to get through the ice, hope my auger is long enough.. State says there is quite a variety of fish in the lake, does anyone know if that report is accurate?  It has three or four trout varieties and grayling and it sounds like a good mix to try for... Did it fish well last fall? Did we ever get a third and fourth sled to join in?  Later J

Another option would be Whitney Res. on the Evanston side, lower altitude, may be less snow.  Just a thought.  I have never fished either of those lakes.

Last year Presidents day we were up on Whitney Reservoir and the snow wasn't too bad, but the slush was a mess under the snow... We may have that problem no matter where we go that late in the year with the snow starting to melt... any idea how to handle deep slush?

Since they stock Tiger Trout in there, I'm good with going to Whitney.  The trip in would be shorter than going into Trial Lake from Kamas for sure.  I've never been to Whitney, so don't know how we would get to it.  But Jeff has fished it and should be able to lead us to it.  We can meet for breakfast in Evanston; I like Jody's Diner (they open at 6AM) but Gary lives there and may have a better choice.

So we now have 3 folks going and need at least one more.  I wouldn't have a problem with 10 or 15 going either.  So who else wants in on this grand adventure?  Here's the list of who's in so far.

Bob, I better clarify one thing... I took a group of young men snowmobiling there last year, we didn't fish it, but I do know how to get there, it's a pretty easy ride with lots of groomed trail that should be easy riding... So much more snow this year than last that I'm sure there will be coverage there when we go... Last year it was 70 degrees when we rode there on presidents day weekend... and the snow stayed good... I haven't fished Whitney before, but I've heard it can be pretty good fishing. I'm good for breakfast in Evanston... J
