Ok so here's a plan I have been thinking about for a few years now and its becoming a very popular thing at the view. How does everyone feel about a night time crappie fishing GTG this year at the view? Looking at putting this on Saturday, February 11th. Now as in the past if the ice and weather change we'll look at other options as it gets closer. Catching crappie this time of day is becoming very popular as the fish tend to just school up and don't move so much. I have been targeting them this way for quite a few years now with great success. For anyone that's drove by the view on the weekends they can attest to this, as it is a lit up busy lake at night and I'm sure this year will be even better with crappie size coming in at 10-12in this year, I have not verified that yet but that's what's being reported. If the weathers decent all you really need is just a light (lantern), headlamp, glow jigs, finder if possible and you should be good to go. If its a bit chilly and for kids then the tent and heater will be needed also. I can also bring my Gas fire pit to light up and have a warming/talking spot. We can meet up at port ramp or cemetery point around 3pm and fish into the night until your ready to head home or for a few of us stay all night. What's everyone think?

Now that sounds like a good time! I may actually try to do this instead of the Gorge trip even though the Gorge is closer.

Wow, Great Idea for a fun GTG. I've never done it but i would love to give it a try. That Saturday is my birthday so i,m not sure how the DW is going to take me going and hanging out on the ice in the dark on my birthday BUT all i can do is throw it out and see if it sticks.

Joe with that kinda money you could charter a flight down!! LOL..

Funny, my wife says the same thing to me all of the time. I almost posted that very Idea yesterday but decided against it due to not wanting to get an interesting reputation online. Guess I better get building a tip jar.

I'll be there in spirit if not in person. February 11 is our wedding anneversery (56 years and counting) and my bride and I will NOT be celebrating it on the ice. I wish all y'all full limits of huge fish.

The get together sounds great ( as they have been the last couple of years ) as for me I will be on an annual goose hunt with my son in Colorado. Hate to miss it ! Besides you young guys stay up past my 9 PM bed time . Oh and Joe try to raise enough to get you back home , I don't think you will make much on the ice !!!

I will bring plenty of dollar bills, I think Matt(musky) should have the brass pole installed in his shack by then. He has got just enough lite in that thing for dancing. Sounds like a great time to be had by all.........

Was up fishing last Monday and the crappies are still abundant, the ice on the other hand is in good shape now with the temps being so low. If it warms up again the 7-8in of crappy stuff on top will be a mess. We will keep our eye on it and hope it works out. If not we will move this GTG to a better location. More to come

It was a great trip! Congratulations on your first post Rod. You are an amazing fisherman! That last night fishing next to you was a blast.

Ok so its looking like we will need to move the GTG again this year. Reports are coming in with 16-20in of snow on top of 3-5in of slush with 8-10in of ice underneath. That is not going to make a fun night trip for sure, walking or riding. Parking this year has been pretty bad also. I'm going to move this to Rockport on the same day and we will fish walking distance out from the ramp in deep enough water to hopefully see some perch, the trout are usually just under the ice. The parking will be good and the conditions of the ice sound way better. I hope this works for everyone with the venue change.

Yes day trip for sure, we'll see here also if the warm weather don't mess it all up. Sounds like park city and in the area there have been seeing 40's for temps $:-\$

X2 on that weather, we may have to cancel all together if it don't get cold again and stiffen things up. It was reading 46deg at the Wanship exit weather station yesterday. It got up to 49deg at the weather station up at pineview. NOT GOOD!!!!

for sure, its at 29deg right now at rockport and 34deg at pineview
