Champlain

Was just curious if any of the bays that hold pike will still be ice fishable this weekend on Champlain, was hoping to make my first trip ever over there but unsure if any ice will be good enough.

Just about every place with pike will be good. Pike are usually the last thing that can be fished since you can catch hogs in 2 feet of water.

Thank you for the info vtcountrychamp, I know you can catch them shallow I was hoping there would be good ice it's about a 2 + hour drive and I hate to make the trip just to find out it was unfishable.

Most of the ice up north is OK TODAY but the shores are going out. Bring a plank or hip boots and you should be fine. Not sure how it will be by the weekend though.

Was thinking about making the trip up to the North Hero area. How is the ice in that area?

I was supposed to go up the Thursday through Saturday but after an update from Bruce at Holiday Harbor decided to cancel.
Sounds like there’s still fishable ice but things are  opening up and spots are limited. With the snow Thursday covering up the sketchy we decided it wasn’t worth it.
Can’t believe things are coming to an end this early in what was shaping up to be an epic ice year. I should need an auger extension at this point, not a plank!

It was the one of the warmest February's on record. I wouldn't call it "epic".
When the entire lakes locks up (like it used too) that might be considered "epic".

Considering the cold we had from mid december through January my expectations were high... and then it went off the rails in February.
It wasnt epic but sure looked like it was gonna be.
