I would think the worst thing to do with one is throw it back. they should be disposed of in a proper manner . Incinerated.

I am now realizing you are right woodchip.......I never gave it a thought when I caught it, but after several posts, I think you are right.  I am not saying this fish I caught had WD, but it seems as though it very well may have.  I had never heard of this disease before, sounds pretty nasty.  Nevertheless, I probably should have made some togue nuggets out of it.

My guess would be lack of key nutrients during their larval stage. I have seen this many times when fish are raised in subpar conditions. Should be pretty rare for wild populations though.
