I am new to crappie fishing as a species but I've stumbled on to some lakes with some real slabs.
I usually only fish minnows on tip ups or single hook dead sticking.
How do you hook minnows on jigs? Through the top lip, or along the back?
I had on a Hali (small chain with single hook) and hooked through back. Just seemed hooking through mouth is more natural action.
Size jigs, traditional vs. horizontal jigs work better?
Thanks for all the help guys. I know it's "fishin" but trying to put my kids on more fish. Caught two little ones. Guy next to us had some absolute slabs.

I use vertical jigs and hook them behind the dorsal fin, being careful not to hook them in the spine. I don't think the color of the jig matters much.

Vertical jig they get hooked in front of the dorsal fin, with hook tip facing forward to the head. On horizontal jigs through the lips or even through the head.

Thanks guys. I'll give that a whirl.

It's more like if I'm missing hook set then I change up where to put the hook on the minnow.
