Figure it's time to start this seasons pictures off with some kids! After being sick as a dog the past week, it was high time to get out with the kids. So armed with a container of shrimp and some small jiggin' poles, we headed to a local lake for some landlocked silver salmon fishing. Fishing was steady throughout the day, and the youngens had a blast on the 8" of firm clear ice. The boys did well getting the "bugs" out of their techniques. At the end of 4 hours, they yarded at least 20 fish in various sizes before Ol' Lady Nature decided to turn our 4 above day into 10 below kickin' wind chill. It was great seeing the smiles! Hey! it's time for this ball to start rolling folks. Fish on!

As with all traditions, the Northern Alaskan Chapter of Terry Gone Fishin' Fish Kissing Club begins a new season with a peck on the lips. Notice I said "peck" Terry! No tongue!!! He's just beginning his right of passage...

Finally we see some ice. I know you have started a great thread here. Sit back and read some great replies. Thanks for posting some ice, I know we are not far away and it's great to see some fish getting pulled through the ice.

People will now "officially" start to go loco.

Hey Folks!
It was great being able to make it out a couple times this year thus far. My boys asked to go again, but for PIKE! I was tooooo glad to oblige even at 5 below. So we took a couple tip-ups and cruised over to a local lake that had a good population of smallish pike for the afternoon. They both did great for rookies. They baited the Beaver dams, set them, watched em', and best of all tussled four mighty "slough sharks" by themselves. Guess it was one of the best days in a fathers life!

They watch the spindle with enthusiasm.... "How big is it?" $:-\$

Set the hook and hold on! Man it's tough "teaching" without buttin' in!

"It's coming up Dad! Barley get out of the way!!!!" Barley hasn't mastered his patience with the youngen yet.

Another fine pike for dinner. "Don't kiss that one Boy!" Couldn't talk the boys into throwing back the first fish of the year.

great pictures and I know it is going to be hard to stay out of the way this year on the ice with my 5 year old.

But, I think I found a place that he can do things himself, minus the hook thing.

Man, you just can't start a Saturday morning any better than with a hot cup of coffee....below freezing temperatures outside....and pictures of smiling kids catching pike on ice! Thanks for sharing!

Nice to see your getting them started early Barleydog, even into fish kissing. I'm impressed because I didn't kiss a fish till I was 14. The young lad in the picture is obviously younger than that. Better keep an eye on him

. He may come home with a ling down his pants one day.
