4895, slightly off topic
« on: Feb 14, 2014, 07:52 AM »
With all this weird weather I have been doing more shooting than ice fishing lately and I was wondering if any of you guys know where I can find IMR4895 or H4895 these days? MidwayUSA is completely out of both. I'd like to get at least a couple of pounds worth. Any ideas on places here in Montana I might be able to get it? I am asking on here because I know a lot of you guys hunt and reload in addition to ice fish.

try http://www.shedhorn.com/Default.aspx  they have as good of selection as anyone in the state.  otherwise, you just need to check periodically at the sports shops to see if any come in with the regular shipments.
While fishing, the only time I drink is when I'm alone or with somebody.

I can't say I've seen any around...at this point I've given up on finding a lot of my favorite powders and take what I can get.  If you can wait, I'd place an order for a couple 8lb jugs & some primers.  What are you shooting?  there could be something else that would work ok

I shoot .308 (out of a Remington 700 and Winchester 70), .223 (out of a Remington 700), and .45-70(out of a Marlin Guide Gun) mostly. The H4895 is what I can use in all three and get really good results even though it is a little slow for the .45-70.

yeah it can be tough getting a powder that works well in all of those...It would be easy to get the 223 & 308 out of the same powder but the 45-70 throws a pickle in the mix.  Maybe check out IMR-4064 if you can't track down 4895.
