An overnighter in an ice tent?
« on: Feb 14, 2010, 09:18 PM »
Went to a burbot lake on Saturday morning. Me and a buddy that I go to school with went. It started out slow but picked up in the afternoon. These are Richard's first ling.

About 4:00 pm it started to really pick up. I wanted a hand to put up my tent as it was very windy and we both kept getting bites so it took about 3 or 4 tries to get the tent up. I finally got my home away from home ready.

Shortly after Richard left then the fishing was great. I caught a 5 lber, 6 lber and a 8 lber.

About 7:30 the fishing died off to nothing. Fish Advocate was joining after she got off work at 11:00 pm. I fished right until she arrived at the tent which was about 1:45 am and not a bite. So I went to bed but my wife stayed up for about an hour and she got nothing as well. So she retired for the evening also. One thing that I can tell you about the Eskimo ice tents is they can take the wind, the outer screw in pegs were actually starting to pull out in the 50 km gusts. Also another thing about the tent is that the seams are not water proof but once the rain started the wind calmed down and I got some sleep. This is Fish Advocate curled up in the sled about 7:00 am Sunday, snoring away. ;)

The fishing was quite steady all morning in all I caught 30 lings and only kept the 8 lber. Going into Margaret Lake next weekend and staying there for 3 days at a cabin, it's going to be awesome. Hopefully get into 40" lings all day long. ;)2

I put my 1st burbot on the ice. Took me 3hours same weather.  30 in two days or two hours? How deep were you fishing Bill?Good luck and tight lines on the 40+ inch burbot. Is there a chance at some lakers at Margret lk?

Congrats on your first burbot. I caught those fish over the 2 days. I was fishing between 20-40 FOW depending on the time of day. I'm pretty sure there's no lakers in Margaret Lake but if there is I'll let you know. ;)

I was in 50 to 75ft of water had three hits before I hooked this one. It was very slow compared to your day. Well the way this temp is going should be fishing out of a boat soon. LOL Looking forward to seeing the post of your trip next weekend. It must have been real wet in that tent with no floor? Cabin will fix that. Tight lines

Surprisingly enough the floor in the tent was not wet at all. I banked snow around the tent which kind of made a dam and the water couldn't get in, plus the tent kept most of the rain out. All in all very comfortable. ;D
