SE Mass Ice Conditions
« on: Jan 09, 2022, 07:27 AM »
Went by Sabatia, Watsons Winnie and the Nip and all still had open water. Hopefully this week will net some better results. Good luck. However I did catch a glimpse of the bald eagle hanging out on Sabatia.

Freezing temps coming every night this week. As long as the wind dies down there should be some safe ice somewhere in the southeast this weekend.

Yup only had an inch on some bog ponds after this cold snap but its going to be 50 today and big rain tomorrow, snow is almost entirely gobe except some shaded spots, if I get 3 days between feb 1 and feb 15 like I usually do it will be a successful season

This little warm up is killing some good progress that was being made out there. Talked to a friend this morning who looked in Kingston and Plymouth, next to nothing left.

It’s looking like it’s going to be another winter with up and down weather swings. Cold tomorrow but then back to 40’s and rain on Monday. We’ll be lucky if we get a couple weekends of fishable ice in the southeast.

Happens every year. We make good progress then get a couple of 40+ degree days to ruin all that nice progress.

Looking like another season of waking up at 4 AM and driving 90+ minutes to spots.

There were a few crazy people fishing and wind surfing on Winnecunnet today. There wasn’t much ice where I checked, only 2-3”. Maybe there was a little more once you went further out? Not enough for me yet.

3” of good ice could be found locally today. Good to fish without the road trip part.

Checked Oldham behind a buddy’s house in a protected corner 3 1/2 inches but edges were open had to plank on. A lot of open water over on boat ramp side. Hopefully gain another inch over night and fish tomorrow.

Tom's is an excellent shop, they have everything you need.

Morrison's Home & Garden in Plymouth sold shiners and worms last year, I don't remember the prices but it's a convenient stop off Route 3. Halifax Bait & Tackle on 106 is good too, he wasn't open on weekends last year but had mediums and worms. There's also MGC Bait in Hanover off 53.

That was a lot of rain. Places I drove by today had a lot of standing water on the ice and opened up along the shore.

I drove by the Monponsett Lakes this morning. The east side looks like it held up much better than the west after yesterday.

Honestly drove by twice today expecting to see someone out there, was surprised it was completely clear all day.

Checked 3 trout ponds from Plymouth to sandwich this morning, looks like they just froze over last night, anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2in

I drove around checking ponds in the Buzzards Bay Wareham area.   Only about 2” of ice where I checked.   There were a couple people fishing a cove on Spectacle Pond in Wareham.  I could not find and access point to be able to check the ice and potentially join them.   Oh well will check on Friday, if no ice I will head inland next weekend.
