I plan to check in as often as I can. Here's a couple of pics of the set ups on the back the sleds of some of the guys I fish with. One year we got buried in the slush everywhere we went, so we all made racks for our sleds so we wouldn't have to haul dog sleds.

I didn't take a pick of my sled.  ::)

It would be a good summer project.  ;D  Most of the augers are tied down with bungies, but one guy has spring loaded quick release latches on his rack. Not all of racks hold augers, but they do hold our bait buckets. No more having go back to the shack because you forgot your bait every time you have a flag. We use small coolers as bait buckets.

If you build something this summer, make sure you post some pics of it.

New subject - the ticks are out there - had one on me after working on a small rock wall around my wifes flower garden right next to the house.  >:( Never worried about these #@&*% little pests until a few years ago. They have moved in and I don't like it.  :%$#!:

I pulled a large tick off my GSP last week.  He must have picked it up during his "group" run.
Don't find too many up near camp.  Down here in MA, I see more.....all dogs get their Lymes shots,
but nothings preventing the ticks from jumping off my dogs and onto me!  I probably wouldn't see them anyway...I need new glasses.  I can't see up close, and I can't see far away.  Pretty soon, I won't be able to see in between!

Be careful out there guys.... last year up in St. Albans (hunting camp) we went up in July/August to build a new outhouse - my buddy was out cleaning up some brush and sometime during the weekend got bitten by a tick.  Couple weeks later he started getting really sick - then he lost all mobility and motor control on his right side.  He couldn't walk, couldn't feed himself and the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong.  Finally though after tests upon tests it was determined that he had lyme disease - got put on a heavy duty regiment of antibiotics and came through it alright but had a long recovery.  So for those of you out there, put lots and lots of bug spray on (turkeys can't smell it anyway!)

Don't want to see any of you guys have to go through that...

remember the deer tick is the carrier of the spirochette Borrelia burgdorferi (bacteria) that causes Lyme Dis.  Most, and I mean most ticks you will pick up will be the big brown/DOG ticks, however, really check yourself deer ticks are really tiny!!  But one good thing is It takes a deer tick 24-48 hours of feeding before they can transmit Lyme disease so if you check yourself right after out there in the woods you can be ok, also I like to keep my clothes outside when I change, and keep them spread out, that way there the ticks that are in your clothes don't start crawling around the house. If you are not in them they will leave ;D.
here are some pictures for comparison.
,
note the small one on the left is the deer tick, the other one in the same photo is the wood/dog tick Far right is a deer tick, next to a dime!

How large to the deer ticks get when they've been feeding for a while?

I've found 2 too late on my springer years past. Body was about the size of #6 shot. Tryed to "back the out" with a 9 volt battery, didn't work.

Vasoline works well, coat their body and they'll back out cause they can't breathe and that way the head doesn't get left inside.

On the islands the ticks seem to be in the short bushes. On Isle Au Haut if you walk though the bushes with light colored pants on you would be surprised how many deer ticks were crawling on you. If the virus is left untreated for a long time it will effect your nervous system. I think I feel on crawling now!

i had about half deer and half dog ticks on my the other day...been paranoid ever since.  Used to live in Missouri and would have ticks all over us and never bothered us any....they didnt have lyme disease though.
