Couldn't get on the ice until the afternoon. No flags on set traps. Good action jigging with an airplane with a cut sucker. No size to anything though, mostly small cusk. Others I talked to said that it's been slow but the brookies are hitting early in the morning.

Yes, everyone has an equal chance. The cash will be the same as the place payments: 4- $1000,4-$500,
4-$250

Great article and explains how the decision was made better then the Herald and what was reported here.  Seems as though all the So. Maine bashing was off base, since No. Maine was reported to have concerns too

I believe they chose their wording a lil differently after getting blasted for the original statement..
either way...its a done deal...
perhaps next year we'll get some serious ice and it will be a new beginning...

One of our crew had a 6.4lb. togue, another won $500 last night; both were "first timers" for the Derby.  I can safely say they'll be back next year as long as you get some darn ice!
