I fished rockwood yesterday and there's not a flake of snow on the lake where I was. Creepers and wheelers are the way to go. had 6 inches of black ice in spots and 18 inches of white ice 100 feet away. The snowmobile trails are down to dirt. They have less snow up there than I have in Augusta. Any one that said the sledding is good might want to check again. @) Oh and the fishing was awesome.

Glad to hear you had a good trip. Before last weekend, the sledding up there was mid winter. They got killed with warm temps, a little rain, and heavy traffic last weekend.

If you're going to bring a sled, Hazzy, might want an air-cooled one, and one that is picked. Last year, many folks were having over-heating issues with their liquid cooled sleds since the lake had practically no snow on it!

Not much choise on what Ill bring the 4wheeler is 1500 lbs sooooo bringing the sled (dont think momma would want it out it is hers) I didnt have any issues last year except crossing the ice I didnt care for that! slides look good and im minimumly picked 48 give or take

What lodge do you guys stay at? I'm still new to icefishing and really wanted to go on this trip. Was telling a buddy about this site and how Team Maine was going to Moosehead that weekend and how I'd love to go and he said it sounded awesome. That's when he lets me know he has a camp on moosehead. Said we can stay there for the weekend. I'm trying to figure out where you guys will be in relation to his camp.

It took me a little longer than I thought to find out when I can be there, but it's all sorted out now. I'll be coming up on the 26th and leaving after fishing on the 28th. I'll be leaving later that evening. Are the cabins reserved for the night of the 25th? If they are I'd come up then. Sending my deposit out now. 2 nights 30 dollar deposit right?

Snowmobile Trail Report
January 9, 2011
The lake has been frozen for three weeks now. I was flying on the ice yesterday. 8 to12 inches of good ice now with with 2 inches of powder on it. The lake is marked and opened from The Birches to Mt Kineo as of today. There is some good riding on the Mt Kineo side of the lake now from The Birches, with some good riding to NE Carry and to Raymonds Restaurant and store. Good access to Pittston Farm from Raymonds Store. The Ragged trail is really good too. Riding is good to Kokadjo on plowed road with snow groomed back in. I rode these trails yesterday and the riding was real nice, considering the snow amounts. It has been cold..

We will be staying at lawrences camps just off the abinacki rd and it isnt far from the boat launch spenser bay is basically draw a line across with the moody islands in the middle we are on the west side of ya depending on the ice its a favorite trail of Linguinis!Now I dont really know that area as Im 4 hrs north of there Id give you the gps coor of where we are going to be but for some reason prob skill of the operator the numbers do not match with gps and google earth but gps puts me back on the exact spot so gps # work for me and my use

no prob! had to dig out the map to get a just about area where you are at loland last year we fished near where you were at was scarry and fun going from there back to the lodge in oh at least 40 mph cross winds and Ill admit first time my sled in my ownership hit 75 lol

Lol. That sounds like a ride and a half. One buddy is bringing his fan-cooled snowmobile(I'd told him how I'd read you guys said the liquid-cools were overheating if there was no snow on the lake), my other buddy is bringing his ranger, and I'm gonna be on the chained wheeler. I'm gonna try to get them over to visit y'all. My buddy that owns the camp said there is a 12xsomething shack up there we can just pull on the lake. His camp is on the water. But I definitely want to make the trip and meet up with you guys. Our plan is to leave Friday morning bright and early get up there and get to the good times.

funny I really didnt have an issue with my f3 600lt someone came over and felt my sliders and just said they were warm engine temp wise I didnt have an issue looking the other day at the sliders I saw no wear to speak of had to replace a set of idler bearings but its a 96 so I cant blame it on the lack of snow or heating issues it and I are ready to be at moosehead in

I can only go by the posts that are here as Im 4hrs north of there as for the sled vs the wheeler cant say Im bringing the sled my 4wheeler is 1500 lbs empty but fits 4 comfortably and is too big to haul down that far

in the past when we were fishing during the tourney it appeared that rockwood had the least amount of people around I would steer clear of near the moose river and between kineo and farm island as traditionally it isnt safe

Well all this is my last post on this thread shutting the computer down till I get back headed out odark thirty tommorrow morning Maybe start a thread from down there with phone Drive safe all that venture out this weekend to our event at moosehead and to those that go to the uso derby The USO is a great organisation and I can attest that they provide much needed relief and entertainment to our troops and in major airports a place for the GI to relax and get a bite to eat between flights Support them please! or stop in at moosehead Photos to follow monday!
