Fish Oil Attractant(s)
« on: Feb 20, 2004, 11:13 AM »
...are they effective when employed during the ice season?

As I used to frequent another ice fishing forum I came across this question.  I thought about the application of fish oil attractants/scents in summer fishing techniques for bass, and pondered whether it would be successful in the winter.  As fish become less aggressive in cold temps, and their strike zones decrease greatly, would an additional sensory stimulation increase the success rate of catching fish?

I've heard of a variety of "smell" tactics that have been used for different fish through the ice.  Including, but not limited too, professional spray attractants and simple preparation H.  One might laugh at the latter, but I fished within 8 feet of another ice angler that was applying prep H to his micro jig, and he was out fishing me 3:1 on decent size gills.  I haven't tried anything recently, but I thought it might be fun to see what other anglers thought...any comments?

Each frozen wasteland holds a gem, the successful ice angler is 95% patient & 5% crazy!
