Favorite panfish line
« on: Jan 14, 2022, 10:25 PM »
What's your favorite pan fish line for being outside?

I've been using braid for a couple years and love it, but I am pretty sick of it freezing up on me.

Depth is no deeper then 30ft.

I go back and forth on this.  What is my favorite line.  It's tough to really say.  However looking back at what line I buy most of, it turns out to be Berkley Fireline.

The one line that seemed to perform to my liking the most is ASSO Micron 3 line.  It just seems like the consistency and lure performance from it suits my style most.  Finesse jigging, stretch performance, line lay on the spool, line recoil, kink resistance, twist resistance, knot strength.  The balance just suits me.

Overall for availability, P-Line Floroclear has treated me pretty well.

Strongest copolymer would go for Stroft GTM.  Using most of it for my leader for ice fishing now.  Haven't used it long term so don't know how long it will last.  The line is a bit more stiff but also feels less stretch.

Braids.
Diawa J-Braid Grand x8. Strongest but rather soft.  I prefer Diawa J-Braid over that of J-Braid Grand.
YGK G-Soul Upgrade x8. Wiry monoline feel brand new from spool.  Very smooth feel.
YGK G-Soul SS112. Slight texture feel makes for very good line management on baitcasting reel spool.  Heavier mass weight helps small lure sink better.
Sufix 131 G-Core.  Best body to a braid line.  Smooth and lays well on spool, best resistance to line dig in.

3lb northland bionic.  For the price it's been some of the better ice line I've used.

We catch a lot of our perch out here in 30-55 ft deep. Mono don't cut it. ;)

That's my main panfish line, too. A bit of 2&4 pound as well, but mostly 3.

3lb Trilene is my favorite...... Spooled up some 4lb P-line this year also .....I've never tried it but it appears to  have strong knot strength.

I was using 2 lb Seaguar Icex today for panfish and thought it was very nice in regards to tying knots and light and low visibility.

YGK G-Soul Upgrade x8. Wiry monoline feel brand new from spool.  Very smooth feel.

I'm using the YGK now in 16lb, I've been using it for a couple years now and love it, but it does ice up, not as bad as other braids like Sufix.
Also the 16lb is thinner then sufix 6lb.
I use the YGK during spring, summer and fall then transfer it to my ice rods.

Ah, I forgot about that line, I've been wanting to try it, I use Seaguar Tatsu in 4lb as leader material and its been excellent.

Overall for availability, P-Line Floroclear has treated me pretty well.

I use 3# on pretty much every panfish setup I have, both ice and open water.
