Title: Rod lockers
Post by: OneMoreFish on Nov 05, 2018, 05:32 PM
Looking to pick up a new rod locker this year. What is everyone’s favorite? I’m looking at the Striker Transporter right now and looks pretty nice. A question for anyone who has this one. Is that center storage are large enough to store my FL-18 in it? Seems like you could really eliminate some items with that case.

depends what you want to spend. Eagle claw $49 the other 2 mentioned here very expensive. The transporter doesn't carry long rods and if u leave the jigs on the get stuck inside the tubes. It doesn't stand up on its own on the ice either. The Eagle Claw can hold a lot of gear.

One with 6 rods and 5 finicky foolers in it and the other loaded with jigging poles and all jigging gear.

This one is the Eagle Claw? I like that a lot too. Quite a bit cheaper then all of the rest as well.

What is the longest rod the eagle claw can hold?   I. Seriously thinking about it.

Just measured mine, about 40" is the max.  It would be a squeeze but it will fit.

Ty.  I think one rod I like to use is longer than that but at least most of them would fit in there.   I could make some sort of rod holders just for that one on my ATV and have the rest stored in this locker.

Will your vexilar/marcum fit in that center storage area?

I wouldn't put anything that heavy in center storage.

But no the Marcum will not fit inside the eagle claw ice rod case.

I should have been more specific, I meant inside the transporter case.

I got the transporter last year and hauled my lx5 in the center.  Worked great and happy I bought it.

Depending on how much room you have/don't have and what your budget is, I would recommend the Otter Rod Box.  If you are like me and you are bringing something like $300-$400 in rods/reels out on the ice, i am not taking any chances.  The Otter Rod Box will easily hold 5 combos plus a small jig box or two.  Nothing moves in that box, you don't need to fold handles and it is basically indestructible.  No plastic latches, these are metal latches holding this thing shut.  Big and heavy but you can put your rods in there and never have to worry that they will come out broken.  I've had one for close to 10 years and wouldn't be without it.

Both cases are exactly the same, Eagle Claw measurements are for  outside dimensions and Flambeau for inside. The difference is in dividers Flambeau is for open water 6.6 two-piece rods and Eagle Claw is for ice fishing rods

Amazon will have to update it's specs.  Will know tomorrow what size the flambeau is, as have one coming from a warehouse deal ($30) on amazon.

Looking for options on new rod storage case, my longest rod is only 28" though, most are 24" any smaller cases like that out there?

I really like my Lakewood ice rod cases.  They are not too big and offer solid protection.  The moderate size is nice, especially if you primarily use shorter rods.  You can easily fit 6 sub 28" rods in these.  The external pockets are great and prevent the case from slipping around when strapped down.

I love the Eagle Claw. Holds my boxes, terminal and Aqua vu too.

Sorry, my hyper link wasn't 'hyper'.  ;D

I really like the Otter rod box. It's pretty rigid. I have 5 rods in mine that I just stow in the my flipover and never have to worry about my rods getting broken any more.

Looking at the eagle claw and flambeau cases here: do the jig boxes/tackle boxes bounce much or cause any problems? I'm not using expensive gear, but want to keep things protected for low cost.  I'm thinking if they move much, could add a towel to keep it snug in place or something like it?

I only put like a towel and extra pair of gloves in the center open area of my Eagle Claw case.  Spare roll of TP.  A few loose rope for tying up things too.  A few packages of soft plastic grubs.  I made sure to have my heavier lure boxes on the ends of the case.  It's just the rod butts there, made sure no rod tips extends into that area so nothing to worry about.

I have the eagle claw case and its nice but very bulky, I don't even use it except to store my gear in during spring til winter.

I'm gonna get the Simms bounty hunter vault this year and try it out.

I have the Eagle Claw rod locker ..the Utility boxes (3500 I believe) stay fairly secure  ...I also recently purchased the Flambeau case very similar to the Eagle Claw ..except its foam cut out has 4 slots as opposed to 3 slot of the EC . Not sure its better ..my initial thought is I don't think I can get any more rods in it as the EC rod locker ..maybe more spinning rods with the handles collapsed but I  have yet to start to put in any gear into it. I like both the Rod locker cases EZPZ in out of the rods  ..I also have the SI transporter ..that hold 5 rods and lots of storage in the center ..store my extra clothing in there .I have a Frabill hard case as well ..for some reason that case hasn't seen much action and mostly used for storage.

I have the Eagle Claw, it's great. I have 6 rods in it and 5 3500 jig boxes in it. Not to mention all my plastics and several other gadgets. I don't carry a dedicated tackle bag any more. It's a bit larger than I thought it would be when I ordered it but I made work and then it's just a matter of getting used to it.

Thanks! I'm looking for something to transport 3-4 rods/reels, and either a jig box and a small tackle box or two jig boxes. Rods aren't too big (Max of 30") and would prefer a hard case. This seems a bit too big maybe.

Flambeau AR case $60 cdn on Amazon. Bigger and half the price as frabil etc.

Best bang for buck. Easily hold 8 rods and tip ups, jack jackets etc
Its 5" tall so no need to fold reels

I have the Otter box -Its sturdy and rugged.  I was using a gun case but the middle section felt like it could not take a blow from an Auger powerhead bumping around in a sled or truck bed.

If anyone is interested in buying the Striker Transporter Bag I'd sell it for $80 plus shipping.  PM me...

If anyone is considering the Eagle Claw, it's on sale for $39.99 for the next 25 minutes at www.fieldandstreamshop .com as part of their flash sale. Plus if you sign up for email you get an extra 10% off, and 4% cash back with a certain portal. Less than $45 shipped.

I just ordered one, looking forward to trying it out this year. Gotta be better than everything bouncing around in a bucket.

I got the flambeau late last winter. It is definitely big and bulky but it holds all of my rods in one place as well as my jig boxes. Beats the hell out of the soft bags I used to have. Works great in my otter lodge shack which is my primary shack once there is enough ice for atv’s.

There are also several very good hard side cases out there. I've had the Frabill 42" and it worked well but was very bulky for my style of fishing. My buddy has it now and uses it often
