Ice is about 48" now. Thicker on the roads.

3,600#'s of flooring arrived at me place today. Now I need to get it to the cabin.

When can I come stay at the cabin Drifter ? My wanderlust has taken hold of me this week like it has not done in a very long time. I read the Wikipedia articles of every Canadian province this week, and have so many fantasies about each one of them, and mostly the least populated ones Labrador, NWT and Yukon ( not Nunavut because humans should not be living there ).

I truly believe that Canada has the most precious resources that are needed for healthy and prosperous living, in the greatest abundance - clean air, clean fresh water, expansive forests, mineral wealth, and spiritual wealth. One needs only to read that a typical province contains something like 100,000 lakes, many of which are truly enormous and could never be overfished, and also that a typical province has a multitude of climates and terrain types, ranging from fertile prairie farmland to boreal forests to enormous freshwater lakes and rivers teaming with fish, and most of the provinces having ocean coastline on either the Atlantic, Pacific, Arctic or Hudson Bay with all of the seafood resources that this provides.

My values tell me to go live in rural Canada, but maybe I am too soft from being a New Yorker all my life. At least I can imagine what it would be like to live there, and when I ice fish on Lake Champlain I am only 80 miles from Quebec, so pretty close after all. I thank Drifter 016 for his many posts on here letting us all know what life is really like in that amazing country. Canada does it right
The Ultimate Warrior is possessed with great power from the heavens above ! Against the mighty lake trout and pike and schools of crappie, the power of the WARRIOR will always ......... PREVAIL !!!

Dave, the ice is thick enough to get some of that flooring to the cabin. Do you have access to a larger truck to haul it??

Usually have my buddies car trailer but it is buried under 4 feet of snow and he hasn't dug it out yet so I will haul some out on my snowmobile trailer.
Will have a car trailer when I get my SxS but still waiting on it to come in.

Went out and worked on the trail for a few hours today.
Watered down about 1/2 of the steep section to help with not blowing out the track.
Got stuck good working on the new trail section up by the cabin. Dropped a ski off the trail and got sucked into waist deep sugar. A bunch of shoveling and yanking and with the help of my neighbour we got the grate big sled out of the woods and onto the trail again.
Back at it tomorrow and then next weekend haul out flooring.

Drifter-016/Dave thank you for the update all the best with the transporting of the flooring to cabin. I went back to the start of this thread and found you mentioning having a Komatik (traditional Inuit sled if you still own this sled could you use it to transport the flooring provided it is not buried under several feet of snow. Good your neighbor was around to help free the snowmobile. Looking forward to photos of flooring installation in the coming weeks/months.

Yeah Steve the komatik has hauled pretty much everything out to the cabin.
It's worked well and has had no problems in all the years it's been in service.
I lean it up against a tree every fall so it doesn't freeze to the ground.
It'll be working next weekend.  ;)

Was out at the cabin again for a few hours.
Cleaned up the bedroom so I can store my flooring in there and finished up trail maintenance.
All ready to go next weekend.

Drifter/Dave good to read you still have the komatik and it is ready to transport materials to your cabin and the trail from lake is now packed down.

Got one load of flooring out to the cabin today.
Another tomorrow and the final load on Thursday.
Got Thursday through Monday off so plan to finish the blowing of the insulation in the roof over the time I'm out there. :)

Drifter Dave looking forward to seeing pics of the floor install, can't believe you still have 4 ft. Of ice you must have an extension on your ice auger.

Finally after many months and 2 tries I have the ceiling insulation installed!!!!
First go was in the summer and after 10 bales of insulation the machine had mechanical issues.
Fast forward to the Easter long weekend and try number 2. Got the machine out to the cabin, hooked it up and there were some issues getting it running properly. I ended up pretty much servicing the machine and then went and bought shorter extension cords. The instructions say that 50' 12 guage cords are OK but I was having voltage issues and popping the breaker on the machine until I dropped down to 25' cords.

I'm just glad it's done and I don't have to worry about it anymore.
24" of insulation should keep the cabin cozy I think. :)

Gonna start cutting trees down next weekend. Have to widen my snowmobile trail into a tracked SxS trial. :)
Then the following weekend I should be hauling my interior siding to the cabin.

Well by the looks of it you should not have any air infiltration problems.  I'm not even going to ask how many rolls of tape you have went threw.

Dave Nice looking SxS especially with the tracks.

Hopefull you do not have the cabin sealed up to tight. I worked on a house with electric heat that was so tight they got condensation on the walls from just cooking and breathing

No vapor barrier on the floor and the humidity level is extremely low here.
Most of the winter it's so low my weather station won't even read it. When it does go up it is in the 20-30% range.
Should be OK.

Always better to have as little air infiltration as possible.  Easy to open doors and windows, hard to take siding off to fix leaks.  That wood stove will remove more moisture then you can create.

Unless you have 5 gallons of water on that woodstove heating up and wet clothes drying....

Interior paneling showed up at my lumber yard today.
I got there to pay the remaining $$$$ just after the truck had pulled into the lot.
Looks like the top row of the back trailer is my order.
I sense a bunch of work coming up.
They're supposed to deliver to my place in town tomorrow and then it's time to start hauling out on the trailer.
