End of the Season
« on: Mar 20, 2023, 01:09 PM »
Well... not many days left in the icefishing season.  Anyone hitting the ice hard before the end?  If so, what's the goal?

I found this season was slower than normal for me.  I didn't get into the numbers or quality of fish I usually catch.  I'm hoping to give it one more shot next weekend.  Targeting big Pike or Burbot predominantly.  Was thinking about heading down to LML, but probably will head to Diefenbaker.

Best of luck to anyone heading out!

The Blackstrap perch have been the salvation of the post - Christmas season for me. Dief has been stingy. We tried TTT on LML last Friday only to find deep snow, and a rock on the first hole which messed up the auger blade. My final trips will roll the dice again on Dief..... it just HAS to get better, right?

 Right?

If not, a few more perch and maybe a walleye or two at the 'Strap.

This has been a fantastic season for me. I have been out more than forty days, and will possibly hit fifty days. I have found some quality perch this year and the walleye numbers have been double digits many days. The walleye size has been good for eaters early in the season, but i find that many are on the smaller end lately. The trophy pike fishing has not been as good as previous year, but the eater size has been better. The cisco are numerous this year, to the point they are out competing the walleye.

Not as many master angler fish this year as last, but lots of up and comers. Don't worry I sent them back so we can all catch them in the Spring.

With the reports from people seeing lots of dead perch and other fish on Blackstrap during the summer, and then the slow start with first ice had us concerned about the perch fishing this winter.  But after we were able to drive on the perch were found.  There were days a person was hitting triple digits.  The size again was down this year compared to 3 and 4 years ago.  But the last month has seen lot's of 10 inch perch, with a few over 11.  As mentioned early walleye fishing was good.  Can't comment on pike fishing, as I don't go looking for them.

It was a great winter fishing with regulars that were meet on the ice and via Ice Shanty.  Makes a better day when the fishing was slow.

Wishing everyone a great summer and open water fishing until we are back at it in 8 months or so.

Been a decent season for action, caught lakers burbs and walleye.  Headed to deschambault for one more kick of the can this weekend.

Id say a bit on the slower side overall here, and same reports being stated for the surrounding areas.  Still got out a good number of times and caught some fish and had some good meals   heres to the rest of the season.

april trout will likely be good- lots of ice around

good luck all

An average start in November. December was too cold to go. January was ok. Then it's really mid-ice bkue all the way to the end.

Wife and I were able to break a few personal bests this year. Didn't get out much but went to the bigger lakes for the fish.

Made it out one last time on Monday.  Slow season overall for me. At least go a nice limit of brookies. Also hit tobin at end of March and did well on pike.
