advice on lake St Helens
« on: Feb 13, 2018, 12:45 PM »
We're heading up to lake St Helen in a couple of weeks and looking for some advice - not trying to steal someone's honey-hole, just trying to get the kids on some panfish.  The lake is bigger and has less drop-offs than most lakes we fish in south MI / north IN...  Any tricks to finding them? ??? ???

I’m from Indiana, and my father and I went up to Houghton and st Helen over New Years. It was our first time fishing st Helen.  We fished the lake farthest to the east. We fished the northern part of the lake were there was a bunch of shanty’s set up. We weren’t they long , after talking to someone they told us they were all pike fishing/spearing in that area. We went back to the launch side of lake up shore about 3/4 of mile were there was another group set up. We ended up catching some nice gills and crappie. Guys In our area did catch a few walleyes and we did get a couple bass on tip ups. Not much help but thought I’d chime in.

Pretty simple lake nothing too tricky about it... TONS of panfish
Catch and release, into the grease!
