FL-8SE with Proview ducer...
« on: Nov 27, 2015, 06:43 PM »
Can anyone tell me how well the proview does with the FL-8SE? I'm thinking about buying one for mine, but don't know if it's worth it or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.

I think the proview on a fl8se would suck in shallow water because the fl8se doesn't have a low power mode and the screen would be super blobby.maybe with a bunch of suppression cables on it.i like the proview on my fl20 and flx28 though.maybe go with a new model tribeam.

A tribeam with a suppression cable is the way to go on an fl8se

I had an 8se with a tribeam suppression cable was a good unit. I upgraded to the 18 though to get zoom.

the reason you want the tribeam vs the proview is this for the following reason.

When fishing shallow, you want to put the transducer on the widest beam angle to show a decent amount of the bottom. You also want to have the gain low and the LP suppression cable to cut out a lot of the clutter in shallow weed areas. With the tribeam you can do this. With a proview you cant. In order to get the wide beam angle the gain needs to be turned up which will make more clutter on your screen with the pro view.

Oh, ok.  Just ordered the S cable, now just need to get paid so I can get the tri-beam lol.  Seems like everything is at least $100 anymore.  Oh to be young and not have responsibilities again. lol

Yep. I know what you mean.

Now just a heads up you want the new tribeam. The old tribeam had problems with the epoxy they used on it. because they used bad epoxy on the old ones when they get exposed to temp swings the case cracks and water gets into it and screws up the transducer. I'll post some pics so you know which one is the old bad one and which one is the new good one.

Here is the old style tribeam vexilar had the epoxy issues with. Notice how it cracked. Do not get one of these it will fail.

Here is the new tribeam. It is completly black except the bottom is the red color. These are the new tribeams that work great and don't fail. If you buy from vexilar direct, you will get the new tribeam.

I'm thinking about buying one from there. They should have a warranty with it I would guess. It's $129 on there. Hopefully it comes with a warranty.

I believe all transducers come with a warrenty. Just keep the proof of purchase dated ticket. Check on it, but I believe it is 2 years.
