I'm always impressed how professional writers are able to capture the moment much better than I can, and I was the one making the moment.  Haha.

At any rate this pretty much sums up the night I had on Sat and is written very well.  Much better than any post I could make.

I'm definitely  going to have to rethink my ice hole drilling game when we have 24"+  of ice.  Overlapping holes puts an amazing amount of torque on a drill with the slurry of water and slush that floods in.

That is sweet! Huge fish! What a story. I caught a 20 inch rainbow the other day and thought it was big pulling it up out of the water.

Reminds me of the scene from Jaws,....you're gonna need a bigger hole!
Thanks for sharing, that was incredible to watch. I can't imagine catching something like that.

Darren nice fish there. might need to keep a fish's ice saw with you to open the hole larger if you catch another big one like that.

Wonderful write up.  It's possible to land winter sturgeon even on light gear as long as one is prepared for utilizing the right techniques and pray that the sturgeon isn't going to hang up on anything.  Again so much easier with the right setup.

Holy cow!  That really is a dinosaur!  Congratulations on getting that topside. Setting a new state record and all on video, awesome.
As for overlapping holes, Try not punching through the bottom of the ice until the last hole, and scoop the shavings out while they’re dry before breaking all the holes through. But if you’re going to keep fishing where those beasts lurk, I’d get an ice saw!
