Run light off flasher?
« on: Feb 09, 2019, 12:00 PM »
Sorry if this has been covered but searched and couldn’t find the answer.

Can I run an underwater light off my flasher battery and have both operate for a reasonable (2-3 hrs) amount of time?

Thanks!

I run a green underwater light off my vex for 6+ hrs with no problem

led light should be fine. you might get interference from it tho.

i used one for a short time. the light on top of the ice works good enough and if you can find plankton naturally you won't need the light. the plankton you are trying to attract on on the bottom and move up slowly to about midway up.
nothing to get tangled either.

if i had to run a light, it would have it's own battery and be away from where i am fishing so i don't get tangled.

Well, maybe I’m complicating this. I have a very bright regular spot light and a super bright red predator hunting light. Could I just drill holes and shine these down? Would red light work? Thanks.

I do this all the time. No interference issues with my LX7 but I do set it a fair distance away. I am using a 12ah battery and have gotten 8 hours out of it running both, a radio, and charging a phone. I do have my backlight turned down on the flasher and I’m running it with the night screen option so that helps a ton.

How do you hook two devices to one battery?

Ran power from the battery into a fuse block and then off of that I connected all of the devices. Flasher, 5.5mm jack, 12v socket, radio, some led lights, and a USB outlet. Pretty basic stuff to wire up.

Since both run on 12v power, they can be run simultaneously.
The two things to be aware of are:

1) possible interference with flasher from light.

2) drain on battery vs. battery power available for extended drain.
The easiest way to figure out how long the battery could last is this
Multiply the voltage times the amperage and divide by the combined power required for both devices.

So a 12v 10 amp battery will provide 120 watts of power. If combined draw of both devices in 20 watts, the battery could provide no more than 6 hours of power.

The formula I found is volts X Amps divided by power usage will give roughly how many hours of usage the battery "could" provide.

Does this make sense?
