Perch Caller
« on: Feb 13, 2019, 06:15 PM »
I have seen several descriptions of a "Perch Caller", basically a large, flashy noisemaker. Some are made of washers, some of pipe and washers, some use in conjunction with chum- They are banged on the bottom. Has anyone used these successfully?

I had an old Cabelas underwater camera i would bang on the bottom to call them. It weighed 6 or 8 oz and would made a good sized cloud. Perch showed up quick with a Trout occasionally. It worked better on C J than it did on Cascade Res.

I use them, caught a good bag on a 98 acre pond.

Old window weight tied to a rope. Pound bottom...bring in fish

I use a 3 inch Lindy Darter to attract Perch. The Darter has a very loud rattle and the bigger Perch will take the lure most of the time. If they want the smaller jigs I drop the Darter down when it gets slow. It also helps catch the Pike and Pickerel that sometimes hang around and scare off the Perch.  I use the "bottom pounding" technique for Lakers.

Today I tried a half dozen of my biggest washers tied to a reel of decoy line. I let it down and banged the bottom. Fish always appeared, and some chased it up a long ways off the bottom. Only caught one of them, but it was a slow day, will be trying it again to see if it helps.
