Perch Deadstick Setup
« on: Jan 17, 2021, 07:31 PM »
Anyone have a successful perch setup they can recommend for a dead stick presentation.

Not looking for rod and reel recommendations but more for presentations.  I was planning on using a bare hook and minnow under a slip bobber but am willing to listen to what others have used successfully since I’ve never tried this before.

Pinhead minnow on a dropper chain spoon works really well for some reason

#6 octopus hook with a splitshot 12-18" above, all resting in a Catch Cover Multi Flex Rod Holder.

For the first 5-7 years all we ever used was a spreader and minnows about 6 inches from the bottom, or a single dropshot with a # 4 or 6 hook and minnow on sensitive balanced tip ups.  I would not want to tally up the amount of perch and smelt caught by that tried and true method before we resorted to rods and reels.

In simplicity a bare hook size 8 has always worked for me.

A Hali jig with a minnow right off the bottom
To catch them all…you gotta catch them small

Just a note to OP on this one. Check your regs before trying this. Live bait on a treble isn't legal a lot of places.

Hali Jig just off the bottom with a VMC Spinshot Drop-shot hook set about 1.5' above.
Good things come to those who bait.

Does this tip-up look familiar?  That's what I use on lake Erie.
