Hawkeye gets it done.
« on: Nov 14, 2018, 08:45 PM »
Hawkeye got his first deer.  A sporty button buck!  He lived up to Meat and Metals Hawkeye handle for him.  It showed up at 7:00 when the wind was gusting 25+ and the tree stand moving like the deck of a boat.  It was about 45 yds out through some pretty heavy brush.  I was looking at the end of the barrel moving around due to the tree stand moving around thinking that this could end badly.  He hit it in the neck and it dropped in its tracks.  It was a nice shot considering how much the tree stand was moving.  Its always a good shot when you don't have to track it.

Now we have some more time to duck hunt before the ice.

When those two get together there is always a story to tell.

Hawkeye still hasn't paid him back from the time he ran to his flag up  and pulled up a Busch lbr!

He does, however with any kid these days video games are right up there.  The good news is that when he is fishing or hunting he is not pulling out his phone to play video games,  he is engaged in the event.  With that said if I had a kid that couldn't get through the slow times on the ice I would let them play some video games if it kept them coming fishing/hunting.  I try to keep life more fun than a video game,   mountain biking, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing  (not in that order), skiing, skating, camping, hiking, shooting and luckily he feels that way as well.

Watch out for girls they can be worse than video games to tear a man away from the wilderness. Remember the oath we had him take when we were ice fishing once. "I promise to the Wood God that I will never let a woman stop me from fishing or hunting".

Denny you should have had Tim take that oath !!    Oh wait you’d have to substitute the woman part for “ wine and greasy residue “ LOL

I've done the same with my daughter ice fishing.  I'd rather have her fire up a game in the shanty then not be out there with me.
