Site starting to wake up for the 2018/19 season! Seeing quite a few regulars.

Nephew on a hot hole that's backfiring!

yup. made a new fishing rack for smelt fishing in the shacks in Maine. Basically, it is two 1/2" PVC pipes running through a milk crate. the rods rest on the PVC. the crate is mounted onto another crate to add height so I can sit up close to the crate and have clearance for my knees. Pail sits in the top crate for my smelt. Tackle is in the bottom crate. Added strike indicators to my smelt poles made with guitar string and foam floats. Smelt sometimes bite very lightly. with the slightest movement of the rod tip, the indicator bounces. It is actually a spring bobber but the line does not go through it. Tall bucket can be substituted for the crates.

Now I can work in my regular ice fishing rods and organize jigs and plastics

It couldn’t come quick enough or stay long enough! I’m looking forward to a good season. My boy turns 7 next month and this will be his first year ice fishing with me. My daughter turned 5 in July and she will be joining us. I’ll even drag their mother along

I tell ya what, they are starting with WAY more luxuries than I had at their age......and well into adulthood.

Bad shoulder blow-out has negated bow season, so I think that October and early November will be upgrading time.

Stood with both feet on a solid lake water this past weekend in Minnesota, still a few weeks away from any real ice around me. Cant wait.

Solid 4" At one lake out here but only 2" Most everywhere else. Second Picture is 2" I punched through with my 42" Crowbar.

The tire guy came in this morning and said he saw 2 guys out on the ice fishing on his way here. There is fish-able ice here now in some places. I took this picture off a bridge yesterday.

Holes drilled and hooks down last Friday for me

But now im in Disneyland with the fam/crowds and its mid 80's. Really missing that ice, BAD!!! Atleast the castle had the frozen theme going for christmas and the daughter was loving it

We had some good ice started down in SE South Dakota but these couple of days in the 40's maybe even 50's is gonna screw that right up.... Hopefully we can be out the first or second week in December on the smaller lakes.
