Title: April 1 outing
Post by: merk42 on Apr 02, 2024, 07:42 AM
We always like to get out in April if possible...The season finished strong with good ice conditions. Very little slush or gator stopping conditions...You might think on tracks its unstoppable... but it is. In deep snow and a layer of water she just get hung up. We drill a hole and with a 5' 4x4 winch forward until it lifts up and runs on top, until we have to do it again... you get the idea. This year was great.

So yesterday was the day. Still 10 inches of ice, we were able to drive the gator out in shallow water to use as a base camp and we fished on foot do deeper water. Got a nice pickerel and 2 small mouths, then we took the whole show home. A great season for one that started slow, but came on with a great finish... All the best to everyone here and have a great open water season... onto walleye! Still have some megatron minnows in the cages for some walleyes!

That’s awesome that you were able to ice fish this long.   I think most of us hung it up in the beginning of March.
Have a good open water season merk

We fish at elevation, seems to make all the difference this year.
