Title: Sayers Dam
Post by: Icenutter on Nov 19, 2010, 08:21 PM
Looks like there is about 3 feet to go on the first draw down.  Should take about another 6 or 7 days.  Just in time for the cold weather to arrive.   ;D

It doesn't seem to be taking long. I thought they were starting on the 15th  did they start the draw down earlier?
Title: Re: Sayers Dam
Post by: Icenutter on Nov 20, 2010, 05:10 PM
I believe it was the 15th.  They are doing about a half foot a day.
Title: Re: Sayers Dam
Post by: Icenutter on Dec 02, 2010, 06:50 AM
Well it will be a while before this lake will be fishable.  I just checked the latest lake levels and it is at 637 feet, which is 7 feet above summer pool. :o

They had about one more day left on the first draw down.  It took about 2 weeks to drop the lake 5 feet, so based on these calculations it will be about 4 weeks or so before the lake is back to the first draw down level of 625 feet.

12 feet? :'( :'(

12 feet? :'( :'(

How about 13 feet.  :o  It just peaked at 638 feet.  The powers to be down stream probably have them holding the water back to not flood any additional homes down stream.  I know when this happens when there is ice trying to form it just messes things up.  Too much current for ice to form correctly.

I also noticed on the DCNR website that portions of the park are shut down because the water is too high.

Where's Diggerdon with an update?

Digger Don for John T.  I'm BACK -We have the lake turned around and we have her gong our way.  We have a good opening and we are releasing water as I speak.  We had the lake down to 625.00 and with the high water we almost went to 639.00.  We had probably our largest INFLOW since the dam was built.  Milesburg was really hit hard.   I cannot give an exact time when we will be back to summer level or even our level of 625.00 which we had before.  I'll try and give everyone as much information as I am allowed to give and like everyone else I am looking forward to the ice fishing season.  Can't wait to see everyone again and I hope everyone is healthy for the upcomming season!      Digger Don!

Digger Don:  First off I am so sorry to hear about pap up at Rich's Bait Shop and his passing.  I know he fought a valiant battle with his cancer.  We will all miss him as he was our friend in all fishing.  Don't forget to support the girls and boy at Rich's.  Stop in and check out their ice equipment.
Also - it looks as though we lucked out with the rain and we will reach our goal of 625.00 early this week.  We planned it that way just in time for the freeze-up.  Ha. just luck I quess.  Hunter's Run was froze over last week - I don't think it will be long now!  I'll try and give everyone as much information as allows during the season!  Hope to see everyone soon!    Digger - Don the DAM MAN!

Hi was wondering how the ice is? anyone fishing the lake yet?
Title: Re: Sayers Dam
Post by: john t. on Dec 15, 2010, 06:49 AM
Diggerdon for john t. :  We are back to our first draw-down level of 625.00 and now let the ice begin to form. Hunter Run cut has ice back in the cove but the narrow part of the cut is open.  We need the wind to stop blowing to make ice.  Let's hope we have good ice on the main part of the lake as it takes the pressure off Hunter Run.  Remember support the ladies at Rich,s.  Also stop in and see JUNIOR at Klinefelters.  It is worth the trip just to talk to JUNIOR!    Don!

Digger for John:  I took some measurements yesterday!  Main lake and inlet to Hunters Run Cove - 2 inches.  The Cove at Hunters Run - 3" to 4".  Would I go on it yet?  NO!  I CAN WAIT UNTIL IT IS AROUND 4" or better all around the lake.  Be patient, Be Safe!  Remember stop in at Rich's and help the ladies out!   Don!

Anchors are now on my list of must haves! Gonna get some real soon. Bad part was Ron had some and didnt have them in. Like a good captain, I went down with my ship. Rode her all the way to the scene of the crash. Matt was screaming "Pig, I need help!" till he noticed that he ran over my hole and I, too, was swept away. Ron ended up being ejected from his trap and on his behind. I am sure it was a comical moment if anyone saw it!

There is plenty of little fish in every lake! This lake has nice fish in it, you just have to work for them. There is almost always action on this lake at least even if they aren't all legal, but... someday they will be. People have to understand that this lake gets fished hard and always has and will continue to. We need to be thankful for this lake for being as good at reproducing the panfish as it has for so many years actually to the point that it is to much and the lake is to over populated and stunts the fish. Even if half the fish you catch isn't legal, it's a good lake to fish. Good luck!

Post by: iceman clem on Feb 21, 2011, 07:01 PM
yea all of the big panfish have been caught and kept so now all u catch are dinks  well everybody go ahead and keep thinking that way and the people that know better will keep fishing for them its nice to catch small fish in here because it proves that this lake is reproducing and there will always be fish to catch ;D ;D

The lake was a little different this year, but there was an excellent spawn, next year and the year after should be just as good as 2009.
