Not so jumbo yellows...
« on: Feb 18, 2019, 02:38 PM »
And not too good ice either.  Walked on ice by dam - following someone's tracks.  Found weak edges on the other side...I got a foot dunk...and the others bailed based on their tracks.  I continued on to a decent hike and catching a quick limit of dink perch (7-9").  It was d$$$ cold.  Too cold for Slayer...but I lack sense on a free day off.  Ice about 6" on the shady side of isla and 4" maybe at SB.  Be very very careful out there.  Here is what it looks like (yeah, that is open water):

Way to go Shoe, glad it was only a "foot" dunk  ;)  Not sure I'll be back up there this season, don't miss the hike either  ;D

Nice haul.  We cut across by the damn then hopped off at the open water then back on over the hill.    The ice was very nosiy and schetchy.  Might try it again this weekend.

Nice pile of perches. Im in need of a fix haha  ..Too damn cold up here to go fishing right now though, given my current frozen perch abundance.  Looks like in another week it might warm up a little.

If I was following your tracks on Monday, I picked up some creepers you lost in the brush...they looked about shot anyway.

Cleaning the "dinks", they actually were 8-10"; so, not too bad. If you all try it, consider humping it overland to the island where the shade keeps the ice thicker.  Still, the edge was also bad just north of the island.  Cold weather might help the edges but careful.

Did you go ice or overland from Island to SB?

Some of both, mostly ice.  After the point got on ice again, checked thickness, and walked the shaded edge to SB.  Had float suit on but it would have been a long cold hike out.  Didn't see any open water from there to inlet yet but didn't go around the bend.  Ice was getting thin back there.  It has been below freezing all week.  Maybe the edges are better??  Take spud??

Shoe,
Ice thickness is great, but tough bite (no bites) yesterday for me and Mike.
Humbled.
