Heading to Montana for Crappie Ice Fishing

I can't believe I have to go on a 6 hour drive to Montana to get some sure crappie through the ice. I cannot wait, never been to Montana, it's been on my bucket list.

Anyone fish out there?

Thanks brother.  I bet they were impressive! I will take some tipups for pike and actively jig for the crappies and perch.

Fished ft. peck in open water. Everything we caught was large. Too freekin cold to go ice fishing up there though-

When I was fishing for walleye on Friday the temp was 63F when I got to the lake. That's MY kind of ice fishing!

There needs to be a new term for your type of ice fishing. You want it to be above freezing and no wind.  Open water weather ice fishing? Ever dangerous ice, fishing?

today is very cold. i contemplated going to 3w since my daughter has presidents day off,  but woke up too late  its a hut day for sure, and i know how you feel about huts

Not much of a hut guy. Ive had at least 1 hut usually 2 since the 1990s.  Ive fished in them maybe 5 times. Just can't bring myself to do it.
