Who's ready for some ice!?
« on: Sep 03, 2013, 03:24 PM »
I moved out here last January and ice fished pretty hard until ice off. I've hit the high mountain lakes, reservoirs, and streams hard this summer and now my mind is wandering to that first ice trip! Who's with me?

I'm with you.  I think I ice fished 7 months of the season last year.  I could have stretched it to 9 but open water crappie/perch were on fire.  I started in October last year and plan to do it again if the ice gods permit and I can find a free weekend around hunting seasons.

I didn't fish too hard last year, but this year is a different story. Already planning and mapping my trips. It can't come fast enough.

Yep we have one tournament of the year left on the salmon tournament trail this weekend. Only second tourney of the year for me cause of broken back, its not hard water but its great to be fishing again. Ice will be here soon.

October huh?? That's awesome! Where are you located in the state? Did you have to get up to the high mountain lakes for the first month or so?

Longmont.  Yes, kind of high, 10k-ish.  I think it's more important to be near some higher peaks with the cold air coming off and also in an area that will get less sun.  There were probably many other lakes at the same elevation that were still open or only skim.

I'll wait till early Dec. for 11-mile. Plenty of open water big browns and lakers spawning till then.
