Nice first post TST. RUB IT IN SOME WILL YA. I'm now a whopping 0 for 17 trips. Glad I didn't waste my $ on a new fillet knife. Nor'easter did us no favors either. Put the fish in lethargic mode.

they were timid that's for sure. I was glad to get out there four days in a row though. It was a great mind clearer. Now it's time for another vacation! haha

well, maybe having more walleye's will help out in thinning the herd of the dink perch, if the musky's don't get to the 'eyes first.... don't want to get ahead of myself but maybe we're seeing a good upswing to this lake.......
When hell freezes over, i'll be ice fishing there too!!

I was planning on taking my daughter to Mayville on Fri. for her first day out on the ice this year, but looking at the weather it is supposed to be pretty windy - NW up to 30mph gusts.  Are there any areas that are worth fishing and would be somewhat protected by the wind?  I'm still learning the lake.

Maybe off Prendergast to the south?

Bell tower has always been good to me.

Went to Pendergast last week, about 28FOW, got one 9-10" eye, and kept 12 - 10" perch out of the 60-70 I caught.

The Muskies are what Chautauqua is all about, the eyes are just stockers, not sure how often the 2 meet habitatwise. What really needs to happen is more weedlines for the panfish to congregate.

They cut all the weeds down for the pleasure boaters and lake front owners. That is why I thing the perch population is dropping. Used to pull up to any weed line and catch perch and sunnies all day. Not any more.

C_R,
I can get the jist around the marinas but do they also dump gallons of herbicide also because there are no heavy weedbeds anywhere.

Bell-Tower is good but a small parking area.  I was at the state launch at Long-Point Sat. lot of parking and a straight out walk to deep water.  Sorted (35) 8-9" and some 10" mixed in.  Caught a lot more 5-7".  Used a small white jig on the bottom with a small split shot above for weight to get down faster in deep water.  Started with spikes but changed to the larger perch eyes for the rest of the day.  Talked to other fishermen and they were catching the same.  I'll be back this Sat.

Keep on hauling

I totally agree I was out over the summer and the cut the weeds in the whole damn lake it was horrible.  You would think the DEC would step in on something like that totally ruining habitat.  The get fisherman for not following rules I would think this would be totally against the law its destroying natural habitat.

Good point bills, the weeds are where all young fish hide from predators, the same predators that rely on them all winter long...........

Nick .... now, for the REST of the story:

... weeds will only produce oxygen when they are actively growing. (requiring sunlight) and will greatly benefit the resident fish, and aquatic life ... During the winter months, with ice, and snow cover, when the weeds die, or are decaying, they actually give off a significant amount of Carbon Dioxide .. so - they produce oxygen for the fish during the summer months, but when vegetation dies in the late Fall, and Winter, they actually rob oxygen from the lake, and then product Carbon Dioxide, which can, and will cause significant fish winter kill - especially in smaller farm ponds, etc.

Thanks CB,
I didn't know that,I wonder why we still find fish in weeds icefishing ???Could it be a food source even though o2 is low in area? Are there certain types of weeds that still live in winter or do they all die ???

Does anyone know if it's ok to park at the lot of the Viking Club to access Dewitville. I know there was a problem there a year or two ago. I like that spot for Wallys
