Geez, that bait/porn shop was great.  Remember that and the Swamp bar.  Weird cross street!
The Greenhornet's caught more fish then you've lied about, Gustafson!

It very well will NickVic.No one needs to die over a stupid fish, one death already over the New Year in Ontario Canada, bad ice reports on Scugog lake but this fisherman had to risk it and now he's no longer with us,be safe and smart!

There are reports of ice on burtis on the reports and conditions page.  From what I remember its a mix of a couple inches each of junky white ice and good ice.  I haven't seen anyone fishing or heard of anyone fishing yet.  The wind and bitter cold the last couple days would have made it challenging, good ice or not. This weekend is a toss up...be careful.

Happened after I posted that. I've been checking burtis all week. I work down the road from it. I saw that post too. I also heard something about a propane crockpot. I'll bring the front shoulder venison roast. Let me know where this shanty restaurant is!

I tried going out at long point yesterday.  There was one guy fishing at the end of the point that was braver than I was.  There was maybe 2 inches if white ice and some soft spots.  Spud was going right through.  I made it out a ways but decided to retreat and wait a couple days.  If we don't get a ton of snow the ice should be good soon.  Be safe.

Hogan's Hut in Stow just called Skip back from layoff effective Monday, January 12. He's got lots of new ice fishing inventory he's going to putting out then. He was uncertain as to the live bait presently available, but he'll be securing an order ASAP if it isn't there already. It must be that safe ice is close if they're bringing him back to work.

good to hear Skip will be back. I called Hogan's and they said he was laid off. Last year he was 4 for 4. I fished Chautauqua 4 times and he put me on fish 4 times.

Looks like there is someone fishing Burtis Bay according to the Lake Cam.  I haven't been out, but maybe I'll take a ride over there.

just back from Burtis...ice was at least 4-5'' everywhere I checked. Was out about 400-500 yrds. A few perch in the 7-9'' range, and same on the gills.  Landed 3 largemouths, largest at 19.5''...first time out this year, felt good!

Skip at Hogan's Hut tells me they have Emeralds, Fat Heads, Rosie's, and Pike Shiner baitfish.
He also has Waxies, Mousies, and Mealies in the store.  He's got lot's of inventory, too, including
a bunch of ice rods.  He says "the game is on."

Hogan's Hut hours currently:
6am-9pm Monday-Friday.
7am-9pm Saturday-Sunday
These hours are at least for another week.
They are arranging to open @ 6am weekends,
possibly beginning the weekend of January 24-25.

TS,
I don't know myself? There are so many conflicting reports you just don't know what to believe,I would think it's a go by now but concerned about that heavy blanket of snow.Last year at 1 and only Pro/Am. I put my foot threw the ice at Long Point 3 x and we had a Polar Vortex.Very little on Mayville so I'll have to take a ride this week and find out myself.

As I reported on Sunday on Burtis  Bay,.......             .I drilled 14 holes, and never found anything more than 5'' of ice, measured with a tape measure. The deepest snow encountered was apprx. 4'' at most.

Dose anyone know if the creek that dumps out by smith boy effects the ice at all? I'd like to get over and try out side of the marina this year.
