Good story Mow. Some days just don't go right, but still better than working. Is that your house pretty much straight off the launch? Hoping to be on the lake with the new shanty this weekend. Thinking off Cliff Island.

This laker was LOADED...never saw a belly so packed with small smelt and some larger shiners.
Proof positive on the big bait theory!
Yes, they like a nice meal, but don't turn down the appetizers.

Hi! Folks use mostly sucker meat on the jig hook and any leftovers like guts and smaller chunks of flesh or even eggs, go into the chum pot.

That's great to see how well that laker was feeding! Smelt population doing well in Newfound. Bodes well for good fishing!

Thanks all! A day for the books indeed!
I wish Marcum would answer their phones...looks like I’ll have to send them my camera. I tried splicing the camera cable and no go. No picture on the monitor...must have blown or shorted something out when my chisel hit the wire. My fault all the way and we pay for mistakes, sometines dearly! I’ll post on what’s going on with Marcum.

Hi all. I’ve been lurking on this thread for a couple weeks reading the chatter. My friends and I are visiting the area next weekend for the Meredith rotary derby. Going to be positioned up in the northwest corner of Newfound. Any info I can gather about ice conditions would be much appreciated. Last year there was quite a bit of snow and the 4 wheelers were mostly useless. Still a big layer of water under the crust? How much snow? Thanks in advance!

Hey welcome Cheaphooker...the crusty layer with water under is all frozen. Yesterday's snowstorm brought nearly a foot but all fluffy powder so likely some blew away in last night's "polar vortex" winds...You should be good to go up there but check as you go and have fun! So now the big question...are you a cheap hooker or do you just like them?  ;D ;D ;)

I suppose if I find a really rich sugar momma up there I could be... No, we don’t get to ice fish much down here in CT, and a lot of years not at all. That being said we generally look like the poor guys on the ice up there because we can’t justify the expensive gear for how much we get to use it. Little by little though, we’re stimulating the economy. This year I made cusk traps, never even heard of them before last year. Just looking to have a fun time and maybe catch some fish! Lots of cooking, and the boys will probably get some drinks in too, although I don’t drink at all.
