Sorry for the late intro. Please see Season 2018 for an explanation.
This thread is for recording the shenanigans that happen on Newfound Lake as part of the Newfound Circus. Please feel free to post, post pictures, give reports etc etc...as to what is happening on the lake throughout the 2019 ice fishing season.
A couple of things to remember if your not familiar with fishing Newfound Lake / being part of the Circus.
Anyone fishing Newfound is part of our Newfound Circus family.
BUT there are a few things:
1. Bring a Motorola hand held radio. Go to Channel 5.5, there is a lot of chatter on this channel. Some good info and lots of silliness. If listening to this channel, it is NOT for children or those offended easily. It is purely for entertainment and if needed, for emergencies. If you are ever in real trouble and need help, you can always holler out for assistance.
btw: real emergencies aren't "hey can someone give me a ride across the lake" or "can someone take care of my house during the week while Im too lazy sitting on my couch".
2. If you see someone struggling with whatever....reach out and lend a hand. Mother nature can be a tough b!tch and it's always easier working together whenever possible. Takes only a minute and you may make a friend.
3. Whenever you help someone out, request that they "pay it forwards" to help someone else too. If we all "pay it forwards" and tag someone else to do the same, imagine.......(as John Lennon would say).
4. Have a handle....there are plenty of Mike's, Steve's, John's etc etc...out on the lake. I actually know quite a few folks only by their handles. No clue what their real names are....Not interested. I sorta like it this way too in case Im asked any questions ;)
5. Post up! Take pictures...we have some awesome sunsets on Newfound. Some great rainbows in the lake (and sometimes above the lake in the sky) and of course a ton of lakers with a few being corkers, cusk, yellow perch etc.... Post up your adventures on the lake, what you had for lunch, conditions and anything else you wanna share. I enjoy reading the updates from everyone, keeps the thread interesting in my opinion.
I know I'm a bit late to starting this party. As I mentioned, I was planning to take this season off on IS but was convinced otherwise. I will backfill the beginning part of the season as best as i can and start this thread off.
Thanks everyone for your kind words and the kick in the ass i needed to get this going again. I hope you enjoy this thread as much as I love living it.

Great to see the ‘019 thread back in its rightful place!
New season brought us tracks for the Argo and they really make the machine come alive in the snow!
We spent our 2nd outing on the lake today and caught our 1st laker of the season today on a tip up shiner...Shobizz had a laker feeding flurry while I was putting in the tip ups but nothing on the jig stick today. We came out late intending to fish the afternoon and were loading out when Tippin stopped to say hello.
Also upgraded our culinary capabilities by adding a portable propane grill and we christened that today with cheeseburgers! Good to have a hot meal!
The laker I caught on the trap took out a ton of line...never saw one run that much before. Of course when playing him to the hole my line froze into a wicked knot all piled up on the snow in the freezing weather.
Had to bring that trap home to fix it.

Jiggin, I'm no where near as eloquent as Stealth and the last several posts on the (18) thread.
Just wanta say thanks for rethinking this (19) thread and all your effort, both on and off the ice.
The Circus thread and videos are appreciated by far more than you know.

Although majority of my fishing is Alton Bay, I try and get up to Newfound a few times a year, maybe more this year with a new job closer to home.
Look forward to reading all the shenanigans and F’ckery that takes place!

As others said, definitely glad to see the Circus is back in town. Many of us only get up there a couple times a season. So when we can't be there, it's awesome to watch what goes on there.
I love watching the cameraderie and "pay it forward" lifestyle. More Americans should take watch....Thanks Jiggin and Company. Keep up the good work.....and "Shenanigans"

My favorite thread to read...now I just need to get up there a few times and put some faces with some names and fish. Never fished NF but always wanted to. Drove by last week as I had to go to skips to pick up my son's model 700 30.06 that had a manufacturer defect. I pulled in where I saw Laker Takers truck (I assume by the NH Plate) but wasn't sure where to access the lake so I went over to Center Harbor. Was thinking maybe Saturday but don't know anyone. I have sled, shack and all the gear but going alone sorta sucks. Tight lines and be safe everyone.

You're never alone at the Circus! I enjoyed my day on the ice listening to the Patriots and had fish all over my sonar. Constant fish on the device but I could not get the damn things to bite. I was amazed at all the people on the ice! Parking was a bit of an issue, I don't think I was legal but never got a ticket. Will be nice to get ice in the broads so we can park at Wellington.
Gonna order up a radio today so I can be "connected" next time I visit!

Managed to get the new runners on this afternoon. Now I can work on getting the wiring in and the storage figured out. At least I can work out of the weather now. Hoping to be able to launch from Wellington a week from Sat.

Jiggin thank you for all the time you spend posting about your fishing and the video footage. Also to all the other Circus members thank you for your posts special community you folks have going may it survive for many more years. Good to see there are still places where folks will check on each other's shanties and help to relocate them as needed during the season. May all of you have a good season on Newfound Lake.

We’re you happy with the results? Curious because I just picked up a new model 750 in .35 whelen that are known for jams and I hear they are great with the issue
Paid $1,000 (gun only - no scope) for my son's brand new model 700 with stainless barrel and put a Leupold 3.5X12X50 and it's a sweet gun. Was his early Christmas gift but never got to use it this year. He ended up using my old 740 woodmaster that his killed a huge number of deer. He ended up getting one with his bow and I got 4 with my bow this year. Problem was that the pre-drilled/taped holes for the scope mounting rail were not drilled true. Thought they used a Jig at the manufacturer for this?? When I mounted the rail, rings and scope, it was visibly off. I laser sighted anyway to see how much it was off. At 75 yards, I could not get closer than 5 inches to the bull from the left. The scope didn't have enough adjustment. I tried the mounts with the "windage" adjustments and still wasn't enough. Problem was the holes weren't drilled true and caused the rail to twist and nothing was recovery the deficit it caused. To answer your question, I was very happy with Skip's. Andrew is a good dude and the Remington rep that does the repairs redrilled (oversize) to 8/32 I believe and corrected the issue. Laser sighted and test fired and was good. Then my son was rubbing holes sighted in at 100. We only put a few 165gr through it so we'll keep shooting as time allows to make sure all is good. I do believe I heard that model you have had a trigger recall. If it was worked on already, it will have a small pin prick on the tab next to trigger.

Glad to hear! No, mine has not been worked on. Although I’m not the original owner I am good friends with them and have used this rifle on many hunts even before the purchase. Anyway, I dont ever recall a recall lol.
I have a 740 like you as well, in aught 6. That one has never jammed or had a single issue. I think it’s a 1959.

Mine is the same one...grandfather bought it a Sears in the 50's or 60;s. Have the carbine and long rifle both in .06

After work, Bounced the house outta Cummings beach. There were some bumpy “Himalaya” ice to cross and then smooth ice (not black ice, but snow ice) which made it difficult to stop the house. All went good. Tippin made it up too. Thanks to “someone” for checking the ice for us.
Was late when I got done but managed to put together my bait, food for the next few days, sleeping gear, etc and ready to go in the morning.

I left cookies at the Capt's cabin once. I went back the next day hoping for a few cookies while out there, and the stormtroopers had eaten them all.
As the old French lady next door when I was growing up used to say.... bastits.
I'll bring more in exchange for a warming hut this year. I can't use my portable this year (longish story) so wind relief is welcome. :)
This Saturday I'm taking a young 'un out for free fishing day on a local pond, but I hope to get down there in the next couple of weeks.

Wellington has about 7” of snow ice. All the way down to Mathew Island. Need creepers. Parking is nicely plowed.
Temps today were cold but no wind. Was a beautiful day but the fishing was slow. Got 2 lakers and so far 1 cusk.
With the temps being around 10f tonight and no wind i decided it would be a perfect night to sleep out.
See what tomorrow brings.

Jiggin thanks for the photos you are off to a good start have fun trying to best your total lakers caught from last year. Guinea have fun and good fishing on your trip,thank you for getting a young person interested/started in ice fishing. I see the ribbing between Circus members is still going strong. ::) :whistle:

Great night sleep. No wind and cool. End the evening w 3 cusk.
Morning started out good. Got up, turned on the camera and immediately saw lakers.
Lost one after several attempts while I was on the throne.
No wind day today. Temps were in the 20’s. Overcast and snowed from time to time. Slow fishing day but saw quite a few on the camera, chum eaters that didn’t want to play.
Talk on the lake today was about the upcoming snow storm.
Decided to bounce up the lake so not to get socked in w deep snow at Mathew. Wind typically blow from the north to the south (more or less). Decided to try to get ahead of it and went north.
Managed to Make it to my spot on Whittemore point.
Couldn’t make it any further, one of my Argo tire blew out. None that I could find in NH. :(
Had to order one. Will be a long walk to check the house after the storm. Do what ya gotta do.
Had a surprise visit by the Northwoods Law crew today. Did some ‘bobhouse’ filming.
Looks to be a another nice night out. Currently 0 mph wind and 21f. Gonna stay.....

Moved my house to my favorite spot the other night, and am sad that I’m only going to fish it one day, and probably move house at the end of day to not get buried in the blowing blowing snow.....
My plans equal....
Fish fav. spot....
Eat lunch...
Plan,scout new spot before storm, and move accordingly..
Sleep, and move snow at home,and maybe fish...
Then .....GO PATS !!!

Great night sleep. No wind and cool. End the evening w 3 cusk.
Morning started out good. Got up, turned on the camera and immediately saw lakers.
Lost one after several attempts while I was on the throne.
No wind day today. Temps were in the 20’s. Overcast and snowed from time to time. Slow fishing day but saw quite a few on the camera, chum eaters that didn’t want to play.
Talk on the lake today was about the upcoming snow storm.
Decided to bounce up the lake so not to get socked in w deep snow at Mathew. Wind typically blow from the north to the south (more or less). Decided to try to get ahead of it and went north.
Managed to Make it to my spot on Whittemore point.
Couldn’t make it any further, one of my Argo tire blew out. None that I could find in NH. :(
Had to order one. Will be a long walk to check the house after the storm. Do what ya gotta do.
Had a surprise visit by the Northwoods Law crew today. Did some ‘bobhouse’ filming.
Looks to be a another nice night out. Currently 0 mph wind and 21f. Gonna stay.....

I was wondering if your Argo tire blew out through the sidewall? They say there’s some abrasion to the sidewalls from the track guides with tracks on. Hope you dont have to wait too long for a tire!

Another nice night to sleep out. Low winds and cold.
Not much happening today for fishing, slow day. Overcast and wind chill kept it around 11F.
At the end of the day, decided to bump the house off the holes so hopefully not flood the area. Filled my old holes with snow and made sure it was soaked to help freeze up. Snowing outside now.
mowbizz, I do have a skandic but didn't use it last season or think i needed it this season because of the argo. wouldn't start for me, need to take it into the shop, think it might need a new fuel pump. argo tire on the way, should be here by weds or thursday.

I found that by not opening the relief valve on the gas cap, it stays running. ???

Didn’t fish today but Psycho and Redfin were out there. I drove by my house and put the binocular on it. All is good until I look and see an older gentleman approaching me from his house. I told him I wasn’t a peeking tom but just checking my house.
Turns out he wanted to meet me as I’ve had my bobhouse off his property for the past 15+ years. I use his house as a land mark to my spot. He and his wife wanted to come out and visit but didn’t want to intrude. We had a nice conversation, watched Psycho and Redfin check my house and chatted w them on the radio. He was amazed as to how the Newfound Circus behaves.
He refers to me as the winter resident due to me being there every year. I remember One year his wife hollered out to me fro their deck when I moved my house up, “welcome back!!”
Anyways, after our conversation, he invite my wife to use his drive way to park as it is a much shorter distance than driving across the lake to pick her up.
I invited them to have dinner w us some night out on the lake.
On Newfound, things just seem to work out for the best.

The wind was wicked. I had -3 in my truck but not sure with the windchill.
Big snow drift on the north side of my house, expected. No wet spots I could see.
Psycho said when he drilled his holes, no water came up, surprisingly.

Redneckfisherman is out there now (big orange crush NFS house)
He got his wheeler stuck in a drift but luckily was close to the shack. Broke his winch rope trying to get unstuck and finally had to jack the wheeler up and pack the snow to get it out. He says moving around is okay until you get near a shack...that’s where the drifts are.

Wellington was not plowed this morning and Redneckfisherman says he hasn’t been able to see back there with the blowing snow to see if someone plowed. This was as of minutes ago.

I had a really “OFF” weekend ...
You ever get those days where your just off .
Well my camera couldn’t survive the trip out to the bobhouse and found out it was broke when I unpacked it. So I had to fish blind,...(sorta I still had fish finder). Missed 4 but this is something I want to get better at. Also wasn’t feeling to well, and already had planned on moving house to prepare for storm. The move went flawless, it was as I was leaving looking at bobhouse ,something wasn’t right......I left
Phyco Phil sent me a picture of my house today ,and asked me why I didn’t use blocks !!
I told ya something wasn’t right...lol, well I got lucky on that one, bobhouse was ok,and phyco blocked it up for me in true circus fashion! Just can’t believe I did something like that......oh well new camera coming in tomorrow!!

Out today for half a day...soon as I drilled holes water came up all around. About 3” of standing water around the house and snow sucking it up and getting slushy. I placed the house based on Navionics depth and got screwed again. Instead of 35 FOW like it says on the App we’re in 63’ and dark as hell down there. My bad for not checking the spot with my camera first. Oh well...no lakers in sight and lots of plankton floating around making visibility low. Wellington access road is plowed but the trailer parking are is not. We’ll see how the morning goes...

Saw one laker check out my bucktail at 63’ and that was it. We closed shop early as the slush was just getting deeper with the snow sucking it up. Filled up all the holes with snow with hopes it freezes before the rains come. Still cold out there, only 18 degrees or so.
As soon as we can we’ll bump the house to a better depth.
Seems as though Navionics screwed the pooch with the app I bought last year as the contours were all completely wrong. I updated to a new version and now the depth contours are accurate. I wish they would notify you when your app won’t work anymore...they got me for another $15 bucks til next season when they’ll probably be off again. >:(

Hey mowbizz, make sure you have your house jacked up, Honestly, i would probably jack my house onto 2 sets of 4x4 blocks. The first set will be underwater (if you got 3" of water that came up), then the next set will keep you above that so your runners don't freeze in. Make sure it's tied down tight.
Normally I would go out with a few folks tonight to check the conditions, houses etc etc....but with my argo down and sled in the shop and of course working in Londonderry, it will be difficult to do this evening. My plans for tonight are to cut my bait box out of the ice to free it up (get it floating again instead of being locked down in the ice). This will take me some time to do but its part of the process of ice fishing for me. I'll drill 4 holes in the corners and then ice saw from hole to hole. Then break off the ice chunks on the box to get it floating. Hoping to beat the rain tonight.

Already came home so the 4x4s will have to do til we get out there again after the rains. If it’s iced in we’ll have to chop it out but I think the water line is still below the top of the 4 by 4. The snow sucking the water might help keep the level down.

We usually try for 35-45 FOW but in our haste to get the shack moved before the snow storm we set it what appeared to be 33’ without checking but when we went this morning and dropped a camera down it just kept going down down down to 63’ and it was zero visibility without the LED lights on the cam. We fished for 2 hours and gave up the ghost with one laker seen...at least I think it was a laker! ;D

#1 ...propane auger has been nothing but a pain in the ass this season so got gas auger ready today..started like a champ..
#2...got bait tank in shed going so I don’t have to try and keep bait alive in 5 gallon buckets all weekend.
#3...fired up & registerd sled, all is good there
#4 ...shoveled off trailer, and loaded wheeler for bobhouse check tomorrow
#5...ordered & received new camera for the upcoming weekend, and hopefully get me through rest of season as my camera broke last weekend..

Just got back from checking bobhouse
Me and lakertaker ventured out to the east side of the lake with our wheelers, boy there is a lot of water out there...put another 4x4 block, and a tie down stick underneath my house, and I’m still in water...wasn’t able to drive around lake, but every bobhouse we came up to skis were in the water...going to go back out and re-asses situation tomorrow may move, or stay put and block up more....

What a mess out there! You break thru a crust with 3-4” of water underneath. We got the house moved to better bottom and jacked it up with double 4x4s to keep the runners out of the water. All set now but I don’t think this crap will firm up until we get some real cold...Water didn’t go down any of the anchor holes I drilled...weird.
Crap conditions for sure. It looks like the Wellington launch has started breaking up too...looked like a couple of holes on the left side. Have no idea how that would have happened...

Water should drain down and set back-up. Long range forecast is for teens and twenty highs for the week. Hope everyone faired well. Still working on the new to me shanty. Got the lights and fan mounted and wired in tonight. Still shooting for a week from tomorrow.

Water should drain down and set back-up. Long range forecast is for teens and twenty highs for the week. Hope everyone faired well. Still working on the new to me shanty. Got the lights and fan mounted and wired in tonight. Still shooting for a week from tomorrow.

Just got home. Wasn’t sure what to expect Friday going to the lake. Everyone was sounding alarm, with good reason. Came around the corner and she was sitting pretty good on the ice. Had the skis underwater so we jacked up to wait for morning to move. There was about 4-6” of water on top of the ice. We celebrated our good fortune.
Saturday morning we moved to drier ground. Thanks to the help from M&M and Bam. We even had a visit from “Newfie”. Slow fishing but everything was good. We ended up on 14” of ice.

After taking yesterday off, I went out to check on the house figuring it would be a good time to bump off my sag, It was.
After I moved, Chopping out my jack up blocks was simple, top 4-5" was frozen and water under that. Got them all back..
Didn't see much today on the camera, had one come in and we did the dance, missed him 3x's till he finally went away.
Overcast and snowed big flakes almost giving a white out condition. Awesome and hated to leave. One day of fishing in a week isn't enough but it was a tough week on the ice.

Definitely takes a lot of time to build and then maintain. Don’t be afraid to ask people questions. Most who have built their own will freely give ideas. Check out other people’s houses when you’re visiting. When you do start let me know and I might be able to point you in the right direction for materials.

Thanks CD. We had a 4X8 and went to a 6X8. The extra 2 feet made a huge difference in comfort inside. In the old house 3 was doable but crowded. In the new 4 people fit nicely. We can sit 4 for a card game lol. My wife complained that I was spending too much time on the build. I told her it would be worse once we put it out. 😎😃

I think I had The Whole lake to myself today, seemed like it anyway...no radio chatter, light wind, I even turned off the f.m. Radio just to enjoy it all.
I put the camera down on new spot, and saw I was on a pile of rocks so had to bump house further north inbetween laker taker, and jiggin....started off slow,but had a flurry of action and was able to pull up Three ....nice relaxing day, got to try new eyoyo camera, and also got to see fish and game practice with the propeller boat for most of the day !!

The good the bad and the ugly revisited...
First off, I brought a portable 12v compressor to top up my Argo tires so I decided to take a few minutes in the Wellington parking lot before going out. The tires, when using tracks, have to be filled to a specific poundage being front and middle tires 5 lbs each and the rears 6lbs.
Well my low pressure tire gauge stopped working making it difficult to see but I did determine the tires were lower than 5 lbs so I aired them up guessing at the poundage. Okay, not so bad... at least there’s more air in them than before.
My wife walked out to the bobhouse while I was messing with tires and loading my gear. She couldn’t open the shack door (frozen shut)
She gave it a yank and ripped the rubber seal off the bottom...okay not a bad problem. Fixable...so let’s get the heat going and set up to fish!
Drilled holes for us and a friend who came out to fish (no auger and nursing a work related broken vertebrae)
Now the brass fitting to the propane tank was frozen...got that thawed and got heat started. Set the cameras and got my sucker cut up and we were finally fishing! Within a few minutes the camera panners were frozen and wouldn’t pan...okay back outside to adjust the cams to a decent position by hand. Yay! Sent down two chum pot loads and now we’re really fishing and the lakers start showing up...good deal!
Shobizz nabs an 18” laker and hauls it up! Great start!
A little while later a pig (I estimate 7-8 lbs) laker swings by and mouths some chum then leaves...it comes back and attacks my bucktail and I set the hook! Wow, this is the real thing as he is fighting me all the way and running and taking out line! I caught a flash of him going by the hole and yikes it’s big! A few minutes of fighting and he wraps my camera cable and gets off. Crap.
Had to go out and let out more camera cable so I could pull it up Into the hole and unhook the jig. Okay...some excitement today so I hurried and reset my bait and sent it back down.
A little dejected at the loss of the big laker so I decided to cook some breakfast...sausage patties and cheddar on flaky biscuits...yum!
To be continued... have to get a fire going in the wood stove...

Good Bad Ugly continued...
Breakfast was a hit now to resume fishing...the lakers were cooperating and constantly on both cameras. While our friend was inside warming up a couple of lakers were cruising and one looked like it had some shoulders...he immediately picked up my jig and the hook was set.
I had visions of a camera cable wrap again and was trying to horse this one a bit and not let him run like he wanted to. Got him to the bottom of the hole and the damn hole was frozen and my line got pinched in the ice ...oh no! I stopped pulling him in and tried to get a wooden jig stick down the hole to break the ice up while not damaging the line...then I get his head in the hole and he get him to floor level and he flops so much he comes off the hook! Back down the hole but he gets stuck sideways in my bucket liner...my friend jumps to the floor and gets his hands on it then brings it up only to have it flop out of his grip! He lunges back down the hole and gets the laker to slide onto the ice under the house. Whew! Got him! An above average laker and I think my personal best on Newfound!
The rest of the day watching lakers eat chum but not commit...and our friend gets a small one on his tip up which he released.
I decided to go outside and move my camera so I could see my jig better...hole frozen over hard so I grabbed the big Mille Lacs chisel to loosen the ice and accidentally cut my camera cable...my wife hollers out hey! You have a blue screen! Crap. Check the cable and sure enough it is damaged. Hopefully I can splice it.
All in all a good day though and exactly why we keep going!

Hi! Folks use mostly sucker meat on the jig hook and any leftovers like guts and smaller chunks of flesh or even eggs, go into the chum pot.

Hey welcome Cheaphooker...the crusty layer with water under is all frozen. Yesterday's snowstorm brought nearly a foot but all fluffy powder so likely some blew away in last night's "polar vortex" winds...You should be good to go up there but check as you go and have fun! So now the big question...are you a cheap hooker or do you just like them? ;D ;D ;)

I suppose if I find a really rich sugar momma up there I could be... No, we don’t get to ice fish much down here in CT, and a lot of years not at all. That being said we generally look like the poor guys on the ice up there because we can’t justify the expensive gear for how much we get to use it. Little by little though, we’re stimulating the economy. This year I made cusk traps, never even heard of them before last year. Just looking to have a fun time and maybe catch some fish! Lots of cooking, and the boys will probably get some drinks in too, although I don’t drink at all.

Sure...many stay over in their shacks and jig as well as set the cusk lines outside. You can put out up to six lines and there are specific rules as to how the cusk line is rigged. Your name and address has to be on them and you should mark the holes with something (many use a spruce branch sticking upright) the single hook must be no more than 6” from your weight which must be over one ounce. I think that’s how it works...check the NH REGULATIONS to be sure.

Came out late-ish around 9:30 and proceeded to set up on our “honey hole” ;D drilled the house holes then a camera hole as we were down to just one camera due to my aggressiveness with the chisel cutting the cable on mine....well, setting up the one cam I’m asking Shobizz for a depth and picture so I can adjust and an says “blue screen” oh wait there it is then no picture again...**censored**
I start checking the cable and damned if I didn’t nick this one too. Crap.
You could make and break the connection by fiddling with the wire so I decided to pack it up as it should be fixable and we would jig blind...
So we jigged blind through the morning and a guy named Kevin searched me out and asked for help moving his house which was by the Wellington shore. He tried yanking it with his wheeler but couldn’t budge it except a few inches. He spoke to me in the parking lot earlier and I said I’d help him if he needed it. Off to help Kevin and he hooked the Argo up to his house and I put it in low and gave a few gentle tugs to see how bad it was. Moved it a few inches so I gave another harder tug and was spinning my tracks so I stopped backed up and said “one more shot” and on the last tug she broke free and I towed it to the end of the Wellington park peninsula where he wanted it. No problems and he was very grateful for the help.
Then back to my house and started pepper steaks on the grill for lunch with some foofoo fancy Indian garlic bread...pretty good! After lunch back to jigging and Shobizz and I thought we felt some “bumps” to our bucktails...hmmm, encouraging! So I started really trying to feel what was going on down there and I felt another bump and gave it the heave-ho...
I was hooked to a “heavy” fish! We’ll come to find out when
It came to the hole, I had snagged the belly...ok not such a heavy fish but a decent 19” laker. Uneventful rest of the afternoon and we packed it in at 4pm. My first blind-jigging-laker. Cool! ;D

Well after a hard start we made it to the ice with the new house. We left the house at 0500 but I couldn't make the hill.(All ice) Got the truck and trailer jack-knifed. Unhitched the trailer and hand pulled around and down the hill. L T had run back to the house for sand. When he got back he dug out the tired sanded and we managed to get out. Hooked up again and headed for the lake. Dropped the trailer at Wellington and headed home for the wheeler. Returnred, hooked the trailer to the bob house and off we went.
Stopped to talk with Mowbiz in the parking lot; lining up a rescue team incase I got stuck. Got the normal reply Sure just give a holler. Circus Folks. go figure. Made it to my spot and Toad and L T started looking for the sweet spot. Found and started unloading the shanty. Wouldn't you know it, yup house froze to the trailer. Got it frrd up and on the ice. Got her jacked up and started fishing. Not bad; it was only 1130.
Made lunch and started organizing. Started wondering if the sweet spot was't so sweet when a desent laker started poking around. Watched him for almost an hour. He was interesred but won't take the bait and left. Then another on came in like a rocket and I was able to set the hook. Nothing big, but the first one in the new house. Took a ride to visit. Saw Jiggin and CH and company. Ran down to see Tippin's and Lakertaker new cribs and visit; both pretty sweet guys. Didn;t make it over to Mows yet, afraid he'd get the chisel out and nick my brake cable. :o
Got back and set up for cusk. Toadie pulled up one. Saw several more, then it was time to pack it in. Got home ate dinner and crashed. Heading back out in about an hour. Ah, circus life!

Those pucks that keep the holes open (there is another thread on them) might be worth having for the camera cable holes.

Thanks! Yes the splice is good and I’m using FlexSeal liquid rubber to restore the watertight-ness. Trouble is this stuff is messy as hell and takes 24-48 hours to cure.
As soon as it cures I can use the cam again.
I’ll look into the “pucks” thx!

Took a ride on the lake tonight with Laker Taker and Tippin.
The ice has some water on it ~ 1" - 2" and some slush (left over snow) in spots here and there. There is more water around the houses due to the weight. Some holes are swirling but nothing i saw was terrible. With the low temps tonight, I think the water will freeze up some. The holes that are open are probably doing the house a favor, draining the water. All 3 holes at my house were open (2 under the house and one outside for the camera). The 2 holes under my house had a frozen snow cone keeping the water around my house from going down my holes. The outside camera hole was "leaking" out due to the wind. I filled all 3 holes with snow from the north side of my house to keep the wind from churning the water in the holes. Then i cut a 4.5" hole on the south side of my house to help drain the water back into the lake.

Its nice to have that 4.5" drill when you own a hardside for stuff like that I'll bet.
We have some warm and rain on Friday after some wet snow Thursday, I hope it doesn't make a mess for you guys.

Well Marcum is charging me for a new camera/cable. $230 plus the $50 service charge to just "diagnose" the problem. Hmmm a cut wire needs a diagnosis? Oh well, they have you over a barrel. Get the vaseline out and make it hurt as little as possible! :P :o :'(
Hard to believe a company that sells ELECTRONICS cant splice a few wires...I guess I should be happy that they didn't need to send it back to China for a fix...

You would think, that there is some type of splice available, I'm sure you are not the first or the last to do it,can you thread the new one through a piece of PVC pipe before connecting it to.protect it..or use a piece of foam pipe insulation.like they said, they got you by the short hairs.

Damn... 230 from a damaged camera cable? My underwater camera was only 160 for the entire setup with a 7" screen... I'm guessing made in somewhere even sketchier than China but has worked great all season so far.

Yes, Jiggin said he uses some PVC for his...I'll go check out his system next time I see him out there...I'm am going to be super careful from now on for sure (and rig some kind of protection for the cable.

Yes, the trouble is they do not splice. The only way out through Marcum is to have them attach a whole new camera and cable to your unit's circuit board. Yes I have repaired the 2nd one and the rubber sealant is curing now. So we'll be back in the swing soon.

Yes there is a foil shield but there was also a bare wire that I spliced as well. RED GREEN BLACK ORANGE WHITE and BARE Were the colors and I couldn’t do anything with the foil but it works as is so hopefully it will be good.

Yes, depth, temperature and you can set for salt or fresh water ( don’t know what the difference is) and of course brightness, color, etc. you can have these displayed on screen or choose to have just a picture with no data.

Took a ride out with Psycho and Tippin. The lake is frozen up and no water. Must wear creepers.
All holes that were open are now frozen as well.
On other topic, prior to the season starting I took my augers to Dags for servicing. The Eskimo propane auger I have would not start. The guys at Dags immediately knew what the problem was, a bent valve and said it was a known problem w Eskimo propane auger. They would work w Eskimo and try to get me a replacement power head. I had to provide the sales receipt which was no problem as I bought it from cabelas and they have every receipt from everything I’ve purchased from them it seems. This was in Dec I dropped it off. Dags (Kevin) and I have been in communication during this time.
Yesterday I got a call from Dags and my replacement new power head is in.
Gotta say THANK YOU DAG’s!!! Best auger repair shop around in my opinion. Long ride but we’ll worth it. Plus they have a ton of stuff in their shop.
I can have it shipped to me for $80 or go pick it up. I’d love to take the ride back up but it’s fishing season....either take a day off (not fish) or go during the weekend (not fish) this is my delima. Looks like I’m having it shipped!
If your having problems w your auger, do yourself a favor and go to Dags. Best to call ahead and schedule some time. Nothing against anyone around this area who do repairs but Dags has never let me down over the years.

Shipping costs suck, but between the lost of fishing time - work time - and fuel cost... probably the way to go.

Just got an update from Marcum “our technicians have repaired your VS825SD and it is being shipped back to you”
Ha...should have said “techs plugged in a new camera/cable”

These companies don't make anything anymore, it's all contract manufacturing from East Asia, so they don't even know how to splice/solder a cable. They just charge you a boatload and ship you a new one. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the whole thing is brand new even the head in a sealed box. It's pathetic but that's how these companies often work.

I know...camera even has a "made in china" sticker right on it. Marcum should be ashamed to call this a "repair"

Jiggin, you mentioned Dags to me a while back, and I'm sure the ol' Jiffy will need a little TLC before next winter, so I might have to make the trek.
I have friends in Saco and Camden, so I want to try to take a long weekend this fall for visiting. It might be a little longer of a weekend if I want to plan a trip to Dags as well. It cuts into our busy season at work, but I'll put the request in anyway. Apparently I'm the only one there who doesn't want time off in the summer lol.
As a matter of fact, I took a day on Monday to hit a local pond. I was overdressed in 2 layers, and I got the telltale face and hands tan, so they would have known I was lying if I called in sick. :)

Every Dec, I bring them to Dag's for servicing. I never want to be without an Auger although I have several sharp Chisel's too.
Dag's loves me and I love them.
In addition I have three Nils 4.5" & a 8" and a K-Drill 8" (really a 7.5"). The K-Drill I use for portable and early ice otherwise I use a 10" auger.
Biggest fear I guess is getting to the lake and not being able to cut a hole......I admit I have a problem and need to attend a 12 step program, First step is to come to grips with it. Second step is to drill a hole and start fishing.

LMAO, you are not alone, I'm "DOWN TO"4 I've got rid all the hand augers, but still have a Jiffy 1 armed bandit,a Jiffy 10" 3.5 Hp a Jiffy 8".2 hp. And the 8" ion that is my go to , I had an old 10" mora T handle man killer, I had a 8" Strike Master,a 6" mora cup style and a 8" nills, I donated those hand augers and about 50 tip ups and alot of "stuff"to the local boy scout troop

Actually I have both, an Eskimo and Jiffy Propane. Been using my Jiffy Propane this season so far without too much problems. I need a new spark plug for it and can't seem to find an Autolite 4290 Plug around this area. Should of checked AJ's when I was there last. :(
Got 5 augers, (not sure why, just came upon good deals and couldn't turn them away):
Jiffy 3.5 Hp Gas 10" (beast)
Jiffy Propane 10"
Jiffy 3.0 Hp Gas 10"
Eskimo Propane 10"
Strike Master 8" (got this one for free from a magazine....Field Tester). I use this one as a loaner but get it maintained each year.
Every Dec, I bring them to Dag's for servicing. I never want to be without an Auger although I have several sharp Chisel's too.
Dag's loves me and I love them.
In addition I have three Nils 4.5" & a 8" and a K-Drill 8" (really a 7.5"). The K-Drill I use for portable and early ice otherwise I use a 10" auger.
Biggest fear I guess is getting to the lake and not being able to cut a hole......I admit I have a problem and need to attend a 12 step program, First step is to come to grips with it. Second step is to drill a hole and start fishing.
LMAO , I too was hooked on too many augers but after an intervention I was able to get down to 4 ! :)

Came out early today to bump the house to get a jump before the wind sets in. Raining out but no wind. Water on the ice.
Late morning the sun came out, warm 47f and still no wind. Ice is getting soft. Loved it.
Saw one of the largest lakers I’ve seen on camera. Kept picking up my chum. Wouldn’t touch my jig nor smelt on the motorvator then swam away.
Not long, he shows back up with 3 of his little buddies. He had one go after my smelt. Caught him.
He then has the other one hit my jig, caught him.
And the other one hit the new smelt. Lost him.
The big one swims off.
Then the winds came in. 0 mph to 7 to 14 on up....saw 33 mph gusts. Water starting to freeze up. Time for the creepers.
Left the lake to get a haircut and when I got back I decided to check Tippin’s house. Going by the point, noticed Lush’s house was next to shore. Odd cause he had it over at the ledges.
Checked Tippins house and gave him an update. Just off the blocks but fine. He comes out and we fix it. All good.
Drove by Lush’s house back to mine, time to cusk fish.
Sat down, changed my jig set up for cusk. Right away felt weight and that tug. Set the hook and brought up a big cusk head into my hole. Instead of getting down to get it, I had flash back of tweaking my back, decided to lift it with my line. As soon as his complete head was out of the water, he flailed his gills, shook his head and popped the hook. I watched him sink down the hole backwards what seemed like in slow motion back to safety.
Went to NFC FB page to post about the cusk and Lush had posted his house was gonzo.
LMAOF, it came undone and went from the ledges across the lake. Parked Nicely next to shore. They came and dragged it back across the lake, dem boyz r crazy. Lol.
Wind gust got up to 38 mph and moved my house almost off my blocks. I went out and pushed it back on the holes. I’m sure there’s a little extra in my laundry for CH.

That's what I have...a portable...ugh...got all twelve stakes and ropes ready to go....it's the best I can do but I'll manage....I hope lol :-\

WOW!!! The wind today was bad. Troutfreak recorded at 64 mph as the high gust.
I got 2 lakers, lost 2 and so far 1 small cusk.
Laker Taker had a good day catching 15 lakers. Now fishing for cusk.
Some brave folks out there today. Tip my hat to you.

We toughed it out till about 3. One 19” rainbow, one 21” cusk, handful of smalls cusk, and 2 lakers, 21” and 23”. Cusk lines reset with some monster shiners tonight.

Can’t wait to try the new system! So far the Buderus boiler is working flawlessly...had it serviced last Fall and the tech said it was so clean there wasn’t much cleaning to do.

Came out early today to bump the house to get a jump before the wind sets in. Raining out but no wind. Water on the ice.
Late morning the sun came out, warm 47f and still no wind. Ice is getting soft. Loved it.
We got all three shacks back after the winds and situated ( lush, birddogs(mine) and walkers) . Some insane winds off the ledges when I get out there Friday night to get my shack. Found my shack holding on to one tie down and off the blocks . Got the hitch on the shack and the wheeler and undid the tie down just to watch the wind blow the bobhouse and fourwheeler a good 4-5 ft . Got lush shack from whittemore and headed west to Wellington with it but couldn’t get moving across the wind had to head south and slowly ease our way west to shore with it. Got them beached for the night and tried to get out Saturday ( lush shack took flight while trying to tie it down ( video is on Facebook and WMUR) . Got some heavy duty ratchet straps and 3k lb climbing rope on order . Mother Nature is a cruel woman but hopefully the new rope and tie downs will be rugged enough

Hey all I would just like to formally introduce myself to the circus. I go by the name AllTenInches and I am new to the whole thing so I figured I make it shanty official. I can usually be found poundin holes... I mean drilling holes with Dipstick. All of the circus crew were very responsive and a good crew to take time and chit chat when the bite was off. even with the wind gust of 60+ mph winds on Meredith derby saturday. AllTenInches "On the Boarrd" "get ta Know Me Pal!"

Tippin ended up having some problems w them. They drilled a few holes around his house and 1 about 6-8 feet from his house then pissed in front of his door probably to get out of the wind on Sunday. We don’t do that and I would assume common sense tells you not to do that. Always someone out there that ruins the day.
When Tippin showed up, they scrambled away from his house like they weren’t doing anything.
Anyways, Thanks for joining in on the fun and having a great sense of humor.

Ya Jiggin I was made aware of that after my nap in my sled. Saw them scramble like the smurfs they were when they saw Gargamel tehe. But ya A Lil respect on the Ice goes a long way.. Besides we are on the same team. Hope they learned a lesson. And to Tippins hope they make it up to ya

Wellington beach parking wasn’t plowed out but parked there.
Slow day for me fishing. Had 3 lakers hanging around all day waiting for chum. They were hook smart too.
Did manage to yank up a cusk after dark.

My radio isnt working for some reason. But spent the night on the ice put 4 cusk in the house.3 at 10pm and one at 530am than a fat 17 inch laker at 8am. Havnt been out in 2 years feels good to be back

Got a late start today...wanted to check the house more than anything as I hadn’t been out for a while. All was good! Never budged in those wicked winds. Fishing sucked today...in 6 hours saw 3 lakers just cruising with no interest in chum or my jig. Guess it was slow all around but heard a few “on the board” radio calls. Half the time I can’t figure out what you guys are talking about...angled houses and taint locations and slapping a ladybird on the hole to trigger a bite...lol
That’s why it’s called “the circus” I guess!
Oh and when I got to Wellington parking lot and went to unload the Argo one of my trailer ramps was missing...lost it on the road somewhere.
Unloaded the Argo with no ramps then at the end of the day I backed the trailer to a snowbank to load it. Easy peasy!

Took my time getting out to the lake today. Wanted to wait till the sun came up. My plans for today were to check with the underwater camera my next bounce to CH's hump.
Yesterday i blew a donut on CH's hump to mark the spot, went back today to check with the camera....looked great, flat next to a drop off, no rocks. Checked a few more spots while there but decided to set up right on her hump, her lovely lady hump. Went back and got the bob house, it's a bit of a haul but last several years there (when the ice permits) for the upcoming derby.
Set up and right away saw lakers and lost 3. Deeper water....
Later CH and our grandson came out. CH caught 2 and I ended up with 3.
3 of us had dinner in the bobhouse and rode into the sunset riding off the ice, nice way to close out the day.
Our Super Bowl on Newfound is this coming weekend. Good luck to those fishing it and be safe to those living in it.

Hello Circus, I have enjoyed reading the posts here today while at work. Me and a buddy typically fish Newfound in the summer and have great luck with the rainbows. We are planning to to head to the Derby this weekend and slay some Cusk and Lakers. I'm even going to dust off the old Motorola so maybe we can hear everyone chatting. Got to the lake around 6am after filling CH’s bird feeders and raking the snow off the roof of the trailer.
Beach parking wasn’t plowed but pulled off as far as I could.
Tons of stuff to bring out but made it in one trip. Long ride.
Took my time setting up and got the cusk lines in before noon. Beautiful day, no wind and warm, cloudy with the sun peeking through the clouds.
Only got two Lakers through the hole but saw more on the camera all day. Just hanging around waiting for chum.
CH came the the rescue today bringing me out my sleeping bag (the one thing I forgot) and a sandwich.
Here till Sunday......
Now I cusk fish.

Windy night. Got me up a few times during the night. No cusk.
Got up to the sound of my rattle reel clicking, lost it but felt like a small cusk. Lost one while jigging on the throne. Couldn’t get a good hook set.
Cusk lines came up empty from overnight except for one w a small Laker.
Zack Attack stopped by for a visit, great to see him.
Later in the day jigged up 1 Laker but the 3 chum suckers were there all day teasing us
CH got one after she switched over to the motivator/ smelt.
Steak Dinner w spaghetti O’s for me. CH made herself a nice sandwich.
And now onto the cusk.

Great night to sleep out. Quiet and no winds. Got up around 1:30 am, full moon really nice out around 14f.
Beautiful day today. Low winds and got up to 44F.
Ended the day with 3 lakers but nothing big enough for the board.
Got only 1 small cusk on the cusk lines. All bait still alive.
Ended the evening on the dark side.
Now cusk fishing.
Tomorrow’s weather will be different than today.

I got to hang out with my old fishing partner Ladybug for a while too.
I called it early today. With no shelter, wind and rain is not my idea of a fun day of fishing.
Now to try to keep my overpriced bait alive until next weekend.

Don’t blame you Guinea...yesterday was surely bluebird weather (no fish either) but different story today. I stayed out in my shack Friday night and regret it.
Have to get a cot or something to try that again.

Lol... on a u-haul pad and comforter on top of those interlocking foam jobbies on the floor...the cold didn't come up through the floor but the whole air space stayed cold and the heat stayed above my prone body 2 feet from the floor...need a cot to elevate my prone, old body...lol

Overnight didn’t produce any snow. Quiet night, cold, nice out.
Started snowing around 7 and didn’t let up until it started sleeting out around noon. Came down pretty hard.
Slow fishing day until around 3:30 when the derby was over, CH started pulling them up. One after another, she pulled up 5 lakers and still more to go. All on a spring line in her hands. No jig stick she said. I think the lakers knew the derby was over decided it was time to eat.
We waited till the rain / sleet stopped and then went home.

Overnight didn’t produce any snow. Quiet night, cold, nice out.
Started snowing around 7 and didn’t let up until it started sleeting out around noon. Came down pretty hard.
Slow fishing day until around 3:30 when the derby was over, CH started pulling them up. One after another, she pulled up 5 lakers and still more to go. All on a spring line in her hands. No jig stick she said. I think the lakers knew the derby was over decided it was time to eat.
We waited till the rain / sleet stopped and then went home.
Great to take a shower, use a real toilet and sleep in a real bed.

Went out yesterday to check the house. Still standing after the high winds Monday and Tuesday. Fished a couple hours and managed to get one. Released to fight another day. It was still quite breezy with a windchill of -10.

Walking is fine but today's warm temps have softened that hard pack...saw a guy almost getting stuck in his jeep. I just went out to bump my house and let a friend fish for a couple hours today.

Mowbizz, the track guides were rubbing the tire sidewalls. I went through one tire and another was getting weak.
Argo Adventures is a good place to get parts and talk to Ed. Anyways we’ve been trying a few things. Tighten up the track, loosening the track, tire pressure. What seemed to work the best is silicone lubricant spray from liquid wrench. Spray on the sidewalls only.

Good tip! I know about the guides wearing down the sidewalls as it has been talked about on the Argo forum (6x6 world)
Something to watch for on mine.
I recently added Quad Boss tire sealant to my 6 tires based on great reviews on that forum. It not only stops the tires from losing air but will seal a half inch puncture. I have to get some liquid wrench silicone!

Made it to the lake a little later than i had hoped for...around 7:30 am.
Unbelievable day in terms of weather....a perfect March Ice Fishing Day! Hindsight I should of slept out last night in the bob house. Perfect conditions for that.
Unfortunately the bite was very slow. I ended the day with only 1 laker but missed the hook set 3 times on 1 laker. I called him Two Tone as half of his body was dark and the other half was very light in color. Never seen one like this but even though I missed him a few times and he felt the hook, he kept coming back for more. I'll be going back after him this coming weekend. Fished solo today as CH had a big "chores list" to get done and get ready for the up coming work week.
Flew the drone and got some decent video footage. Had to be careful as we have some low flying planes in the area.
Folks still driving trucks on the lake making big ruts in the snow. Thought a couple of them were going to get stuck (was hoping....)

Had the day off. Started out cold but warmed up quickly. Hit 48f with little to no wind.
Flew the drone, got some good footage. Dipstick was a good sport. Thanks man. You put on a clinic for us today. Good show.
Ended the day with 3 lakers. 2 tone eluded me but he made a few appearance. I caught his buddy landing strip (has a line on his forehead).
Stayed the night, jigged up 4 cusk, all small.

Took a friend out to try today. Basically got skunked besides a dozen or so small perch. Had a few chasers.
My buddy decided to drive out on the lake a got stuck a few times. Kept spinning his tires which I feel scared everything away. And with the whiteout snow there was I could remember where my holes I drilled were. So it was a rough day.

Another great night to sleep out. No wind. Only a few cusk but all were small and released.
Woke up and clouds were moving in and low. Created a complete white out for most of the day. Started snowing around 8am and pretty heavy.
Managed to get a 22” Laker and another small one.
From out of no where I hear a knock on my door. It was a guy who got his truck stuck driving on the lake. Was planning to go to Pasquaney bay from Wellington but due to the amount of snow decided to stop at Whittemore point. Then got stuck and needed a shovel or some help.
I radioed Tippin and Pyscho and the 3 of us got him moving along, getting stuck every so often all the way back to Wellington. We helped him all the way there. Wish they wouldn’t drive out in their trucks, not a fan. He did mention that the funny part is he has a snowmobile. Didn’t laugh. Took me away from getting another laker that I was playing with. I showed him on the fish finder while I got dressed (bibs, boots etc). Was planning to stay in my PJ’s all day.
Good deed done and back to fishing.
Hated to but left the lake around 4pm to go back to the real world.

You gotta keep some local towing business cards in your shack so when someone comes looking for help you can give it to them lol... I hope he atleast offered up dinner or gas money for the argo or something. I'm all for helping people but you gotta wonder about somebody who drives on a snowy lake when its 40 out and they don't expect the slush to grab hold...

you've got a big heart, who in their right mind drives onto the frozen, snow covered lake with out so much as a snow shovel...I guess common sense aint so common anymore..

Made it out Friday afternoon. Got set up and started fishing around 3:30. Trout in the camera right from the start, but no takers. Boom Stick walked out and joined me. He stayed till around 10:30 then headed home. I fished till 01:00 with no takers and decided to crash. Up at four and fishing by 04:30. Couple of bounces on the spring line and got an answer. Worked at it for about 20 minutes. Finially set the hook. Up it came only to be a ten inch Cusk. He went back down the hole to fight another day.
Nothing else until around 08:00 when two Lakers started circle. Boom Stick was back around 09:00 and we watched them clean up chum, but not touching the jigs. They left and nothing until 15:00 then the bigger one came back and slammed my jig. Got her in the house. Fair Laker at 25 inches and headed for the smoker. The smaller one must have been lonely and took the smelt on my tip up. Again into the house. Only 16 inches, cut the hook and back in the lake. No dice, too much damage won't go down. That one too headed for the smoker.

Ate dinner and decided to pack it in rather than deal with the storm. And here we go Jiggin; Getting ready to leave and a woman comes up and says her boy friend's truck is stuck and can I help. He was trying to drive between shore and Cliff Island, why I don't know. His buddy and I where able to rock him enough and he backed out and went back to launch.
Got back to the parking area and started to load, when Laker Taker came in. We had a good visit and then headed for home.
All and all a get weekend at the circus. Chatting with Jiggin and listening to goings on over the radio. Lady bug; you really need to do something about your gas problems :o

Looks like we have a buyer for the house so this will be the last of our "hardside" adventures...too much work for us senior citizens anyway what with moving it worrying about weather and such. We still have a portable and all the equipment so not done ice fishing just yet!
May have the Argo up for sale too...we'll see. Call it "senior downsizing" :o
We seem to enjoy the salmon, rainbow, laker season more anyway so perhaps a more suitable trolling boat will be in our future.

Mowbizz hardsides are a lot of work for us seniors. Went to a popup quite a few years ago I like to be mobile I never know where I will go usually comes down to a a coin flip. Good luck on all your future endeavors hardwater or softwater.

Thanks guys...it isn’t without a smidgeon if regret that we’re calling it quits on maintaining a hardside. We gave it a try for a few seasons and finally came to the realization that feeling beat up and having to relax for a couple days after a day on the ice wasn’t worth the effort.
Sometimes simpler is better. We got to experience it on our terms and made a decision. Kudos to the younger bucks that can put in all the work and still enjoy it! I have to give my wife a lot of credit because I wouldn’t have been able to do it alone. Hell, just climbing in and out of the Argo was even causing aches and pains I wouldn’t have otherwise. Tough getting old. :'(

Well let me tell you it was like night and day... so easy to move and load. we love it... 300 lbs full of our crap.. we can pucrap by hand in the right conditions. Tow it with just about anything... Its an expensive alternative, but will keep this old guy in a hardside for many years to come... it has solar roof panels, we burned half the propane and its not even insulated, just doesnt need it. its great. Highly recommend one. Thanks to Northern Fabrication Solutions, the builder of it... in off season it doubles as my wife's garden outhouse. Put a camp throne over the hole and she is all set.

I hear that! That’s why we had a 6x10 Mission aluminum! Not as nice a those NFS ones but very light and easy to move for sure. I can’t inagine having one of those “hotels” made entirely of wood...that’s a younger mans game!

Come on Mowbizz these are our "Golden Years". Two days in a row are tough for me. I really wonder sometimes why I do it.
That feeling exactly. I think the kicker was when I spent the Friday night of the derby weekend out in my shack, then the whole next day fishing too.
Bad decision as I stayed up all night keeping my poor dog from shivering on the cold floor. Long night for sure.

Don't judge it by the derby, it took some thing from all of us that fished it.
I'm going to miss your daily posts,by next fall you'll be chomping at the bit..
I'm on vacation next week, going to give it my all 3/ 30 will be my last outing, time to get the boat ready for haddock opener and a summer of chasing Stripers. .and besides that the boss lady has a heck of a list...ouch!

Met Chiefmike going out to the house this morning. Good to meet you man. Getting the hang of catching lakers!
Rained for an hour or so this morning at times heavily.
Very warm day and no wind to a slight warm breeze. Didn’t bother running any propane heat.
Psycho visited for a while and they are sleeping out tonight.
Unfortunately work interrupted fishing most of the day but managed to pull up 3 lakers.
Snow melting and getting slushy out on the ice by the end of the day.
Laker Taker came out for a few hours. Caught 2 lakers before heading in.

Nice meeting you as well jiggin. I caught two before I left. I hunkered in my vehicle for the 30 minutes or so of the heaviest rain. Yeah it definitely slushy out there. Tough walking now too. Thanks for the use of the radio by the way. One of them that I caught bent the crap out of my hooked on one of the spoons I was using too.

Travel across the lake was slushy. Snow but water underneath. Guys using wheelers said as long as you stay in your previous tracks, travel wasn’t too bad.
Only fished a half day, very slow and only saw 1 Laker that just swam by.
Boat launch onto the lake is getting weaker (mostly due to truck traffic imo). Hoping to be able to use it to remove houses when time comes.
Came home and dug my “bobhouse” trailer out of the snow bank. Get it ready for end of season which is quickly approaching.
Back at it today.

Happy St. Patty’s Day!
A bit colder this morning which stiffened up the snow/ice.
Below freezing w the wind chill. Sun was warm though.
It seems I’ve trained the lakers to wait for me to put more chum down. They hung around waiting but I held out. Managed to catch 2 lakers. One was while I was on Grandpad (face time) with my mother. She got to see me yank one up all the way from Arizona. Pretty cool.
CH joined me today and lost one.

Went to check out Wellington today and the boat ramp is starting to get pretty sketchy. Lots of broken ice. Stepped through a few times. Just wanted to give a heads up

Can’t say because I haven’t been there recently but when the launch starts breaking up there are usually a couple of paths, left and right of the Wellington launch where you can get on and off. Then there’s Cummings beach and the town beach at the foot of the lake (near the Big Catch restaurant) the circus boys use the town beach at the foot of the lake as a last resrort place to get their houses off.

Got out to the bobhouse and decided to bump it. Water underneath and ice around it was getting soft.
Bump went smooth, great traction. Not quite grainy ice on the top layer this morning.
Snowed big flakes and then Wind picked up. 29mph As the day went on change to sleet and then rain.
Water on top of the ice and supposed to be warm tonight.
Tomorrow the wind is supposed to be bad.
Launch is getting tired.
Slow fishing day, Caught 1 laker and CH had one started but lost it. :)

Windy ride out to the house. A layer of ice but not enough to not break through. More like a layer of snow blown ice.
Slow day again fishing. Winds got up to 49mph according to Tippins weather station.
Managed to yank up 2 lakers today and lost 2.

Way off. But the sizes on average seem to be a bit better. Only up to 39 so far for the season. Well over 100 this time last season.

Wow what an incredible day weather wise. Didn’t need the propane heat today. Outside temps were around 50f with little wind.
Ice is now getting grainy. Excellent for moving the house and fishing outside.
Brought the oldest grandson out today, saw lots of lakers on the camera but no takers.
Grilled cheeseburgers for lunch.
Still 20.5” of ice where I’m at but the launch is getting weaker.
Dipstick had a good day with his niece (first time for her Laker fishing). He got 8 and she got 3 lakers. Pretty good.

As an outsider. Why do you fish new found? The numbers you produce are awful compared to other lakes? I could never sit out there all day for one or 2 tiny Lakers

It's not always about catching fish..they will explain.

I suspect it's all about that "Ice life" and not about scoring big fish or numbers, that's just the bonus every here and there...
catching fish is just a small part of the reason I choose to stand on a frozen lake in the cold.

We kid around about Laker Taker using a branding iron w “LT” or a familiar hand print left behind on all the lakers he catches. We check our fish to see if they’d been caught by him before.

Thanks, it's all about the next generation, and she is "hooked". She was able to wake up at 330, see the sunrise on newfound, catch a few, then nap onThe ride home. It went full circle when she helped fillet and try my poor man lobster recipe while we were packaging. She also learned that you can't keep them all or there won't be any left.

Thanks CD. Some days it’s quiet on the Dark Side and quite a few days we are a social hub.😉. This was Newfound Derby weekend. My sister in law took the picture from shore. First time she saw us in action and couldn’t believe the crowd we were entertaining.Not all the people shown are fishing. We take in snowmobilers as well. For some reason they stop for libations at the end of the day. All good friends! 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️ The Circus folks showed up a little later in the afternoon. No pictures!😎

Got out to the bobhouse after work. Tippin, Laker Taker, Psycho came out as well. Psycho bounced his house to another spot and mentioned it was the easiest bounce he did all season. Traction is really good right now for pulling.
Didn’t get any lakers but one was hanging around waiting for chum. He got none.
Cusk fishing so far only yielded 2 small ones.

3/27 & 3/28/2019
Great sleeping night. No to low winds and quiet.
Ended the night w 3 small cusk. Fished w the underwater camera w the lights on. Normally I just switch to the fish finder. Was pretty cool seeing lakers and cusk at night.
Fished about shortly after midnight.
In the morning the same 2 lakers were waiting for their breakfast. Played w them till around 11 am. Hated to leave this area for the season but Decided it time to bounce. The bounce was super easy. Conditions were perfect.
Got set up by Wellington and managed to yank up 3 lakers.
Psycho fished today and later KakernTaker made it out for the evening bite.
Another nice day and evening. Got 2 cusk so far and Decided to stay over another night.

Another great night to sleep out. Warm and low winds.
Caught a few cusk but again all were small.
Decided to bump the house after CH got out. A little bit deeper waters.
Day was overcast until around 5 pm and the sun broke through.
CH and I both ended up with one each. Saw a bunch of lakers and missed a few, including a school of 15 suckers.
Speaking of 15, Tippin had his PB and ended his day w 15 lakers and one 22” cusk. Both a PB.
Looks like it’s gonna be another nice night to sleep out but CH says it’s time for a shower.

Got to the lake at O'dark 30. Shortly afterwards, Brookieslayer showed up, nice chat and nice to meet you. Hope you got into the rainbows you were after.
Overcast, warm and no wind. Later in the afternoon the sun peeked out to greet us.
CH managed to get 2 Lakers and lost 1. I got a skunk although i did catch a sucker in the tail, on my tip up, while i was flying the drone, not paying attention, that looked a lot like my sucker that was missing from my bait bucket.....hummmm. No one really owned up to it :) but got me.
Tippin was on fire again today catching 11 before noon. Then we all decided it was time to shut him down and put our houses together and start grilling. Too much food, great company and awesome weather. Cant complain and it was really nice getting to see everyone!
At the end of the day, Cleaned out the house to lighten the load. Tomorrow we pull the houses off the lake and take them home then hopefully get a ride in before it rains. We like to do a last ride around the lake cleaning up whatever we can that's been left behind. It's a fun ride around the lake. We'll see with the rain coming how we make out.

I got a skunk although i did catch a sucker in the tail, on my tip up, while i was flying the drone, not paying attention, that looked a lot like my sucker that was missing from my bait bucket.....hummmm. No one really owned up to it :) but got me.

Caught 26 lake trout in a day and a half, and a pb cusk at 24 inches on the last weekend ! So fortunate to have such a great group of people to share the moment with...

Wow, last day.....
Made it to the boat launch at 7:30. Psycho and fam were already there moving houses around getting them lined up, lightest to heaviest. Weather cooperated all morning and we were able to get 7 houses across the launch and onto trailers, tied down and taken home in short time.
Big thanks to all that were there, it always makes for a great time and a much easier event to a daunting task we really don't want to do. It was easy peasy as they would say. No issues, no problems and lots of laughs.
Psycho on the last day likes to take a plunge near shore in the water, like a polar plunge type of thing. The launch ice held up! He couldn't go through but Psycho always manages to still get wet.
After all the houses were gone, Laker Taker, Tippin and I took our ride around the lake collecting blocks, trash etc...not too bad this year as compared to some. Unfortunately Ma Nature decided to rain and sleet during our ride but cant complain, she held off perfectly while we were loading the houses. Ice looks like crap but still plenty. Fog set in making it difficult to see and navigate.
I am surprised by how fast the season went. A blur in a wink or blink of an eye. I had a great time! Started ice fishing the day after Thanksgiving and only missed 2 days during the 2019 season. One was due to work travel and the other was to give the ice (water) a chance to freeze up.
Goal was to get more time this season on the ice but still my numbers were way down, 42 lakers for the season. Biggest was 31" (no weight). CH with 14 and biggest was 21". Spent more time cusk fishing and didn't have any of those big number days like Tippin got to experience as we have in the past. I remember when they lit up for me last season and i could hear the frustration on Tippin's voice although he was happy for me. He definitely deserved and earned it. He's put in his time. :flex:
Remember Butterfly kicking the guys butts and having a great season. Ladybug bringing up a couple of nice ones all by herself. The ladies are no joke and Of course Laker Taker ended his season with 82 lakers and biggest @ 29.5"
We got to bounce around more this season and some got to explore new fishing grounds.
Always funny moments on the radio, made friends and strengthen ties, some lessons learned, saws some interesting things work for catching lakers, saw some things that didn't, witnessed an "ice fisher boy" become and "ice fisherman" this season branching off and doing his own thing the way he was taught good skills, learned some new ice cooking recipes and some new ice fishing "words of wisdom" that i hope to never have to use. There were some bad or hard moments but those turned out to be good learning lessons. Got some video footage to work on and relive.
All I know is, Jack Frost must of been super nice to Ma Nature :-* we had some great ice this season. Thanks Jack!
Thank you to everyone for a great season, it is always way more fun doing this together. Thanks to all that contributed to and / or visited this thread! I hope you liked it.
It'll take me some time to get re-adjusted to not waking up early on the weekends and slow down some. It is with bittersweet feelings that the Newfound Season has come to a close but realize there is much to do in order to get ready for next season. Time to start getting ready for 2020!

On that note, it was great to see everyone on Saturday and meet a few more people as well. I hope to have my portable out next year and spend a little more time out there.

To answer your question yes it is still in service,but have not had chance to use it this season. There were a lot of thing I like about the camera only a couple of things that concerned me . I only used it for one full season every weekend though.
Things that I liked:
-price, got me out of a pinch when I broke my aqua view,and A lot of bang for your buck
-small camera cable, easy to manage,and was able to tie it into a slipknot to hang into position..but had to be fragile with it
-dvr was awsome,was able to record some real cool footage
-The different hanging options to get a different view of bottom
-the suit case style it comes in was rugged and made easy to pack
Things that may need improvement:
-the screen had to be in perfect position to see, not able to keep in that position, so had to remove screen from suitcase to achieve the right position
-only could use internal battery, I fish all day and got 6-7 hours out of it,would be nice to Hook up to a backup external battery
-the camera, had good picture, but my buddy’s could fish into the “dusk hours” with their cameras but I could not.they would get an extra hour or so ...the lights were good but your limited at night with those
Over all I liked it last season. Would recommend it great for beginners, easy setup, and definitely could see the action !

Pretty quiet here. Granted, I’m not doing much in the way of fishing this winter but if any ice forms on the big lakes I will venture out on foot for bows maybe.

I much preferred my flip phone! You didn't have to push 6 buttons or swipe or push mini keys to wait for it to warm up.
The only reason I switched was to save 40 bucks a month for something I don't use.

FWIW... I think both my daughters left home because I REFUSED to have more than one phone in the house, and at that it was in the kitchen... hard to believe, but it wasn't all that many years ago there was no cell phones.... if I lost my phone tomorrow, my life wouldn't change, I still don't wear a wrist watch... the sun and moon are my real time clock.

WOW!!!! This thread has taken a left turn! Too Funny!!! I leave for a bit and look what happened. Thanks for keeping the thread alive. Enjoyed the posts and still cracking up.
Yes I've joined Instagram. There is a long story behind it but basically my wife thinks I'm too immature for any social media so she is starting me out slow and I need to prove her wrong, that i have actually matured.
No Facebook yet or any other social media, just Instagram.
Honestly, i haven't gotten into any trouble yet, so far so good. ;) I surprise myself sometimes.
Needless to say i know nothing about social media but I have a plan......My plans are to go virus on social media.
Slow and steady, one at a time.
First take over Instagram, (In process...CHECK).
Then bump over to My Space.
Then transfer over to Tweeter.
Eventually if I do good, I can join (sit on my) Face Book but my ultimate goal is to get onto that fishing site Plenty of Fish. Heard they post up a lot of pics etc....must be a good site just due to the name alone.

FWIW... I think both my daughters left home because I REFUSED to have more than one phone in the house, and at that it was in the kitchen... hard to believe, but it wasn't all that many years ago there was no cell phones.... if I lost my phone tomorrow, my life wouldn't change, I still don't wear a wrist watch... the sun and moon are my real time clock.

Social media has it upsides and downsides. I enjoy twitter for following different news sources and individuals. You can get a lot of different opinions quickly with it. So far IG is great, but I just joined to follow jiggin and the circus. FB is for the birds.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Frank...I believe growing up, Frank had the excellent sense to seek out and pay very close attention to elders that he wanted to learn from. He sucked up that info like a sponge, retained it and grew his knowledge base with his own experiences.
I'm guessing his genetics (family) and farm background taught him a strong work ethic. That ethic goes beyond work in to his other pursuits. Strive for excellence.
Those traits are much appreciated by plenty of boomers and makes it easy to relate to each other.

Hey I just got the truck loaded and I’m head out now to install a new subfloor and Tile for a guy. So now I can grout tomorrow and then Monday start on the walls. I’ve ice fished twice this year and it’s because I can’t find anyone my age in the trades or who know any trades. I’d settle for being able to show up on time with a reliable vehicle and knowledge of reading a tape measure at this point.

What Brook? Huh? 3-8" is that enough for my truck to drive on? All kidding aside... I fished the side of that lake that I like to call the slums (where us poor people fish) Thursday. Huge ice ridge at the "access point" and the way it was plowed didn't help. Saw the same ice, 3-8", but the cracks and fissures we're what will get people in trouble. We had one gap that went from 3" to 12" and took on water. Careful out there folks

Finally got the shack out! Pulled it out Friday am in light(😉) to heavy(😡) freezing rain. Got it set up and enjoyed watching the rain turn to heavy snow. Caught a couple lakers, one was 22-23”. Whatever snow fell got blown away by the wind. Saturday was cold and “breezy”. Caught one laker but a beautiful day! Ended up with 2 Thursday, 2 Friday, and 1 Saturday.

Derby Weekend almost here!!! Will have both boys out with me for the whole thing this year. Hoping the 7 year old can jig one up. He jigged almost non stop from 8 to 2 on winni the other weekend, that kind of patience deserves to be rewarded.
