smeltin in southern maine

went to the york river yesterday smelting.  cold windy and no shack.  fishing was hot and heavy between the four of us we ended up with 2 five gallon buckets full in 4 hours bite finally stopped two hours after high tide very cold but a lot of fun could not even drink a beer to much action and it froze as soon as you opened it

That is awesome! How was the ice? wanted to but have not made it over there yet this year.

the ice wasnt to bad dont know if it will last this warm spell though about 7 inches just the way york river is alot of tide up there

2 five gallons buckets of smelts is a lot more then the 8 quarts four people can keep  :-\

I think through the ice during the winter there is no limit.

The 2 quart seems to be from March 15 - June 30.

there is no limit through the ice just in the spring when dippind them
