Well its getting to be that time of year again and another great GTG for 2016 is in order. Unlike the circumstances that changed the location last year, the plan is to be back to Pineview reservoir this year. Now by all means if mother nature does not cooperate we will move the location ASAP to try and give everyone ample time to plan accordingly. Lets start getting some ideas on dates and I'll get a poll going. Depending on what date everyone votes for, I myself may not be able to attend. I have a new addition coming to my family around January 25th and am looking at disk replacement surgery the 1st week of February so my preferred dates would be February 20 or 27. Like last year I will poll the dates up and you will be able to select 2. The date with the most votes will be the day. In the event of a tie between the 2 highest voted dates I will redo the poll to reflect those 2 dates and 1 vote will be allowed at that point. Lets post up some dates everyone!

I plan on a week long trip to Cascade, ID the second week of Feb, so I think either Feb 20 or 27 would be great.

I have a soccer team I coach we have a tournament in the middle of Feb so I say the 20th or 27th is better for me

Well after the trip into port ramp today I'm going to say cemetery is going to be the meeting area unless it gets better for access as more people go in there. See my post on the Pineview R&C board

Was on planning on being there but wife told me no we have a carabbion trip not to excited about told her the mesquites might bite her and make her sick so there might still be a chance I will be there this year

Sorry to hear this for all of you (madplumber, Junior48 and fishinqueen) I have yet to hear back from my ins. company on my pre-authorization for my surgery so I'm up in the air to. As long as I don't have it the Thursday before I should be there in one capacity or another

I'll be doing some recon trips starting Monday to keep an eye on the ice/slush for the GTG so hopefully the temps stay low enough to keep the slush monster away. I drove into port ramp on sunday morning and its not to bad now that someone went in there with a plow and opened the entrance up a bit by the pay shack. Parking is still consolidated to a smaller area but if your there early enough to beat the crowds getting a trailer turned around should not be to bad. I'm still thinking cemetery might be the best place to park for everyone though. What do you guys think? Geezergonewild would like to try and get the kid pic goodie bags to the kiddos and get some pics at the GTG so by all means bring them up with you if your coming

I really don't see a major problem with temperatures. The Huntsville daytime temps are going to be in the 30s through the next 10 days, but the nighttime temps will all be below freezing. So the ice is not going to make any major changes before the GTG. Edges might get a little soft due to runoff and rising levels, but the ice itself will be just fine. I still plan on fishing Strawberry and maybe Fish Lake using a snowmobile until the end of March as we have over the past two years.

Took a drive around the view after work today and it seems the ice is holding out good. There were groups off the north side of cemetery, browning, port ramp and the narrows. The edges were looking a little soft but nothing I would have a problem with taking my sled across. I know there's plenty of ice on there its just going to come down to whether that refroze crusty layer stays hard and by the looks of it, it is so far. I don't know who seen my report from Monday

but there was standing water when I left that day and its all gone now with a fresh dusting of snow. The north side of cemetery had the biggest spot of soft stuff/opening water but that's no surprise for that shallow spot there. I would have to say the best spot for everyone to gather/fish/hang out would be the south side of cemetery. Now I know this isn't the hottest area to fish (nights have been the best anyways) but I cant see anywhere else for us to go and not struggle getting gear/sleds/kids ect... onto the ice with out shuttling for awhile going out and back. How does this sound? Any other ideas? Maybe narrows, litttle tougher climb (people with sleds could still drive over from the point) it has the best ice? Fish north side cemetery and anyone wanting to help out could shuttle gear around point on sleds, others could walk the trail down? Whatcha think? Oh and by the way that motor home is still stuck in port ramp

GTG is getting close and we are planning on some hot dogs ,hot cocoa , and coffee. If I could get a count of people planning to attend it would help. Especially need a count of the kids ,we will have special goodies for them.

Geezer, I will bring condiments (ketchup,mustard,relish). I will have 2 of my kids with me. We will see who is coming to determine how much.
