By the number of shacks/pop ups, I would say the West side.  There are a few on the East side.  We have tried both
over the years and find the West side better.  But it seems this year a guy has to move around and drill lot's of holes, as
others have said on here......I prefer summer trolling to winter trolling, but a guy has to do what is he has to do.

fish are all over the lake. just got to put in some time and move till you find them. i personally don't fish in crowds. i like to be on the move. i find the less activity top side the better. some might disagree.

I have found over the years that there are many other places in that lake that hold more fish then that sunken road.  I don't even bother with it.

They don't even need to see you catch something  ::). I like to try new spots and stay mobile but it seems like if I hunker down in one area for more than 2 hours. Someone will pull up 20 yards away and start slugging holes right at prime time scaring off any walleyes that were in the area. What really drives me up a wall is they pull up and start using one of your holes.

People use your holes?? WOW! They must be from Ontario. Apparently that is common there.

I believe it’s bad luck to fish out of a hole you didn’t drill yourself unless it’s with friends or was offered to you! ;)

No matter summer or winter people want to fish 2 feet away from you. Guess they figure if your all alone you must be in a honey hole that took you years to find.  And they just bought new fishing gear so why not camp out beside you. I havent been one the ice in 2 years but when i did i was the guy in the middle of no where.  If someone said what the hell is that guy doing away over there ... that was me.   One of these days ill get back on the ice.

Oh god, tell me about it. I was fishing dief last summer, found a nice little honey hole, the eyes were deep. Every troll in my loop would bag one. Some asshole in a tub started following my exact circle. ****censored word****ing guy left when he couldn't catch a cold in in my spot. Its a big lake, no need for that garbage. Not sure what he was using but it wasn't my old faithful. Surprised he didn't have a pair of binocs to get a closer look at my rig when I was pulling up eyes. Should have started whipping crapties around his tub. Not sure but I think aluminum would stand up better than fiberglass in a battle.

Or how about when someone thinks or hears your catching fish so they drill 4 holes right in front of the door of your shanty. That’s what happened to me last winter.

For that lake you almost need to set a decoy tent up with a recording of a few guys catching fish every few minutes to attract the lazy fishermen. Then go set up another tent were you actually want to fish.

To add to this discussion - today my buddy and I said let's just try the middle of the lake (North end). We have been to all the hot spots of last year with minimal results. Our gamble was rewarded with a decent bite of perch and a good fish story. With a larger walleye aggressively approaching his lure, a big perch flashed into camera view winning the race to the bait. No happy ending to this one though, the perch let go and the walleye swam away. Best perch of the keepers was 11.5 inches.
Today it paid to separate ourselves from the crowd.

Just got back from a beautiful day on the Strap.  Tried Evans road first thing in the morning for 2 hours and then moved to the North end as we were planning a shore lunch.  Only caught one 11 1/2 and one 13 inch perch at Evans road.

Then caught a good dozen perch and a 4 lb walleye, at the North end before we had our shore lunch.  Then we went to check out the back bay entrance at Blackrock.  It is good, little drop, but I drove off and then back on with no problem.  Tried a couple spots in that area for a hour with no luck.

Then went back to our shack and only fished for about a hour catching a few more perch and then cleaned the rest of our fish and headed home.

As I said before, we don't catch many at Evans road, but they are all those big jumbos (11 to 13 3/4 inches....is what we have been catching).  Plus we usually pick up a walleye or 2 in the morning (not this time though, but caught the 4 pounder at the North end).

They are still hitting in spurts at the North end. But seem to be on people's flashers/cameras all the time.  In the past Feb was always the slow month, maybe this year will be different and end up being a good month.

You never hear people fishing the very south end, but all close to one area at the south end ive caught a 15 1/4 inch perch and a 28 inch walleye in the summer, my only 3 whitefish in winter and i pike so big the tip up line got tangles up and it pulled a quik strike rig apart - in the winter. Head had to be 6 inches across

I just got back from the Strap.  Had to fish myself today.  Started at the North end close to Shields and only caught 1/2 dozen small throw backs from 8:30 to 1.  So packed up and went to Evans Road.  Both the North end access and the boat launches are doable by car still, so with a truck no problem.  No problem driving around both ends.  And I went off the back bay (Blackrock), to get to the park...no problem getting on and off there also.

There was a convention going on at Evans Road so I tried in front of the boat launches for a while with just a few bites.  So moved to the West side to the North of Evans road a bit past the crowd around 2:30 and hit a honey hole....from 2:30 to 4:45 landed 16 jumbo perch.....1/2 of them are still in the lake as I only wanted 8 for supper tomorrow night as company is coming.  Just can't understand the difference in size between that area and the North end.  Didn't catch any small ones, all the jumbos I threw back were told that I would be back for them next week.  We do catch some jumbos at the North end, but 80% of them are throw backs.

Maybe things are picking up.  Hope everyone else had a good day.

Thanks Churchill!! The strap is relatively new to me as I’m used to fishing northern lakes most deschambault but need to learn the winter walleye on blackstrap. I’ve heard it can be challenging

Got out today for a afternoon/evening fish hit a few spots south of the causeway. Ended the day with a couple walleyes to bring home and 2 perch . And the smallest pike I’ve ever seen hit a lure. Buddy was over at Evans road and had walleyes on the ice also. Going to try an early, early morning trip see what’s moving around ?

Ok, have to ask....your not Mike Modano?

I imagine you have been into Skeekiebuck (pretty sure I spelled it wrong), as we have caught lot's of Walleyes over the years.

We target perch, but the areas we fish hold walleye also.  Never caught one today, but usually always catch a couple each time out.  The perch are all over, but they are being tight lipped this winter.  Cameras and flashers always show fish but hard to get them to bite this winter so far.

Just move around and drill lot's of holes.  I only had to try 4 areas and drill 30 holes today.....lol
