i can verify that. there was about 7 inches of black ice. he went through to the bottom with a four wheeler in the back too

I could never understand that concept.. if you have the 4 wheeler USE IT!! Instead they add more weight to the truck when they drive out and wonder why they go threw the Ice.  >:( >:( >:( :o :o :o
I do all types of fishing; but I am Die hard Ice angler.
I love Ice Fishing the lakes of Rutland County. Recently moved to NY and now will be Ice fishing the Lakes Of New York.

He made the front page of The Newport Daily Express.  There's a picture of him standing in front of the hole where his truck went through.  I guess there isn't much going on up there.

Those ice skaters have no fear!  2 weeks ago I was out fishing on first ice.  I left the machine at home and walked on 2" of black ice under 3" of white ice (frozen snow).  A guy came down the middle of the lake on a 4 wheeler, plowing.  He went back and forth 6 times.  Then he stopped near me and said "how much ice is there?"

I said "not enough for me to put my snowmobile on comfortably".

Then he said, "well the speed skater told me to plow it.  He said it's fine because you can drive a truck on 4 inches of ice".

He didn't break through, so I guess he was ok......but you wouldn't catch me doing that!

I watched a guy plow a skating track on Curtis Pond with a four wheeler on Saturday the 9th.  I thought for sure he was going to go through. Seemed pretty risky to put 500 - 600 pounds (ATV and rider) on the new ice.

An ATV is a lot different than a truck. I would drive an ATV on 5-6 inches of ice and be comfortable as ice safety guidelines and formulas would say that 5 inches of ice can hold 1200 lb, and that is a pretty conservative amount based on a 50psi break strength, which is the bottom end of ice capacity, it can get up to 150psi for good black ice. But for my truck to go out I wait for at least 12 inches.

I have driven my truck on with the ATV in the bed a few times. I do this on champ when it gets chopped up as my atv can't move my shack through the ruts. But I only do that when there is 15+ inches of ice.

Strawberry acres is on the lake road. Beans bay is a little farther up the lake rd. It's on the west side of the lake.
