Laramie Range
« on: Nov 29, 2008, 05:07 PM »
Hi everyone, I'm new to the board this week. Yesterday my dad, brother in law, and I went up to a pond in the Laramie Range and caught some brookies from 6 to 16 inches with 5 inches of ice. So there is a little ice if you don't mind going up to 8000 ft or so.

Were you on Lake Owen? I was there on sat and slayed the brookies from 8-16 inches along with four rainbows from 12-18 inches and seen three browns all over 20. about 6-8 inches of good solid ice fishing in 6-10 feet of water on the north side with a 1 1/2 inch red/yekkow tube jig tipped with half a meal worm.

No I wasn't on Lake Owen, I was on a pond between Laramie and Cheyenne off of Happy Jack Rd. Sorry it doesn't have a name. We were using jigs I make, chartreuse color with meal worms. It's only brookies in the pond I was fishing. Good job on Owen though, I may have to make it up there someday. When do they close that road to vehicles? I can post a couple pics later if I can figure it out.

I've fished a number of those ponds when I was craving some hot action on early ice.  Tend to be small fish, but they'll absolutely go nuts for just about anything you throw at them.

Welcome to the Shanty.

Any news on Hattie or Twin Buttes this year?  Sure wish the water was up.  You could get some big perch in Twin Buttes when Hattie actually fed into it.

As of today the road was still open, but with the snow who knows, it should close any time. Dont know about Twin Buttes but some people were fishing Hattie today on about 2 1/2 inches of ice on the east side with open water on the west.

Got out there today and had a heck of a first day on the ice.  Caught quite a few nice brookies and several slimers in the the mix as well.  Great day even though it was a little windy.

Only snapped a couple shots this was probably the best one.

Looks like the cold weather is coming and we wont have to go up high to get some ice.

They tasted great, something about eating a fish the same day it was swimming.  We caught them on a wide variety of tackle, small jigs mostly tipped with just about anything.  I caught a few on a chubby darter.  They seemed to come in flurrys.

Cant wait to get out again.

Nice pictures 327 and Zee!  Those are some nice brookies.  Fried up with a little butter and lemon pepper...  mmmm mmmmmm.  Good to see some of the Wyo crowd is finding hard water.

Nice fish that 16 incher looks like wall hanging material.

Hold out for a 20-incher, 327...  They're out there! :o ;D

Hi Guys,

Glendo water temps Saturday/Sunday were 36 to 38 degrees depending on location and time of day.  Saturday the Whiskey ramp was iced in, as well as the back of Reno cove and small bays.  By Sunday afternoon, at least one boat launched from the Whiskey ramp.  With the cold temps forecast this week, it could freeze over soon.  It takes quite a bit of cold to make safe ice, so I would bet about two to three weeks.

Have any of you done any good on the north end - Elkhorn, Muddy, ect? The ice will probably be safe there sooner than down on the main lake.  Be careful on the ice.

Keith Walters (Nebraska)
