Length is somewhat personal preference.  I like 63 inches total length.  Too short and flight is compromised.  Too long and they are combersome.  There are guys in eastern Montana that use spears around 10 ft. long in real deep water.  The handle is in sections.

Here's a few pictures of my first spear of this season.  It has 9/32" thick tines and a bubinga wood handle grip section.

this one isn't painted yet its going to have a weighted wood handle!

this one is my perch spear head with barbs so if a pike comes in one spear can be used

this one is my perch spear head barbed to be used for frogs the client wanted to put it on his own wood handle

I just got my new Heavyweight from 9tine. This is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen! It is flawless! I have a few spears from different makers and this spear leaves them all in the dust. I can't wait to use it, although I kind of hate to. I got the Bubinga Handle. Thanks Dave for the effort and expertise that you obviously put into this creation!

I recently came across this forged 50" spear.
It was quite rusty. I soaked it in white vinegar and scrubbed it with a stiff nylon brush. Hit it with some coconut oil and the heat gun. Put a paracord rope on it and plan to send it if we get some good ice here in SW Michigan.
Does anyone have any thoughts about how old it might be? Anyone recognize the maker?
