Bring your boat. I'm at Elbow and it's all open water as far as the eye can see.

Checked one coulee I usually fish. Drilled hole close to shore measured 7 inches but water was gushing out. Did not venture out far or drop a hook. Lots of pockets of open water yet. Not a speck of snow so very slippery especially with the water gushing out of holes. Main lake by dam had white caps and no ice you would catch me on. Those are the only two places I cab speak to.

Bay's/coulees around elbow are locked up. Have not had a chance to drill any holes yet. Main lake had coverd over once but the wind broke that up. This warm weather will not help matters.

Has anyone tried the fish farm. Have people been catching any rainbows? Have any of the nets broke lately?

I heard (word of mouth, could not find an article when i looked) that something like 10000-15000 rainbows escaped in the late fall. Got kind of excited but then i looked into the big escape that happened a while back and something like 500,000 got out. Still may be better luck for rainbows in that area this year?
I would also be interested in knowing what the ice conditions are like in the fish farm area and the coulees south west of hitchcock. Also the coulees south east of hitchcock across the lake.
I have never ice fished those areas but i think i wanna put any hardwater effort i put into diefenbaker in that area of the lake rather than my typical slow days at coteau bay. I wouldn't at all think of driving across the main body of the lake from hitchcock and im doubting it would be safe enough to even drive on in those coulees alone. That being said, is there vehicle access to any of those coulees where i could maybe walk out from? Is there any roads that lead into the water that could be driven on when the ice is good enough? Can you drive out on to the lake from the fish farm (land operation area)?
I am interested in:
maskepetoon bay, the little one south of maskeptoon sage bay, little sage bay.
Also a little farther south is belhumuer bay which i recall i had heard one time was a decent spot to ice fish.
Does anyone know of any spots to access those bays by land? I know there was a pumping station with a road in maskepetoon bay. Looks a bit steep to the water from there though, even for walking on. Also not sure if that bay is unreliable for ice due to the water structure?
Thanks!

Around the Elbow area the lake is still wide open. Qu'Appelle Arm is frozen, but probably not too safe yet. Harbour is frozen over with about 10" of ice. Be a while yet.

The pump house bay at the eastern end of Gardiner Dam had 8+" of ice before Christmas. I caught only 3 pikes in the 26-29" range. Central part of the big lake was still open.

not sure, but know a few guys that have been fishing Coteau and pump house. Slammed the perch one day a few weeks ago and pulled a 22lb pike out of the water another. 8"-10" when they were there a few weeks ago. with this cold over the next week or two there should be no issues walking on. sled on of there is enough snow on the ice.

Main lake is now locked up. A few sled tracks on it, not sure ice thickness. Bay's and coulees have been fishable for a few weeks now. Was a good bite on until this cold snap.

What depths are guys finding the perch? ever get any in the coulee's? Fished a couple weeks ago in a coulee, mouth had open water. Lots of pike, a few rainbows and whites mixed in. Was going for trophy pike and any kinda rainbow we could snag. Ended up landing all fish on rods, not one tip up. About 7 fish for a 8 hour day of fishing and 40 holes. Biggest was 8-9lb pike and about a 5 lb rainbow. Kept the bow, everything else went back. But curious if guys ever scoop walleye or perch in the coulees? I have only seen them never caught them. Thanks

I have read a few provincial articles that state they have not stalked lake trout in diefenbaker since 1975. It also said while researching the lakers there that they didn't have proper spawning grounds that's lakers like. Very Deep rocky structures and the laker numbers in diefenbaker continually drop. That being said I know the odd person catches them in there still. So there still there and still finding ways to spawn. Probably less lakers than any other type of fish in diefenbaker if ur targeting them specifically.

Best lake trout fishing I've ever had was in kingmere lake in pa national park. In mid summer in 100' of water. Heavy laker population in that lake but u cannot acces the lake with a motor boat and I have never ice fished it.

The only way I know is the road off the highway. And untill we get a ton more snow. You have to hump your gear down the rocks.
