the pickeral was caught on lake jean. The angler was pageman1j. i was over checking a tip up. and caught 15 inch pickeral. he was on his way back to his shanty when he say my jigging rod heading down the hole. he set the hook. the biggest fish of our season on the ice and though you guys would like to see it.

Just curious. Are pickeral a fish you target in PA? Considered a nusiance here and left on the ice with the yellow perch. The trout and salmon are king in Maine and are what most fisherman target. Only time I've heard of people  fishing for them here is when they are starting out with kids and look for the fast action. Eat 'em? willing to try any thing once...heard they are bony .... good luck and be safe

dont usually get into them too often.  this is actually the first place that i fished that we caught as many as we did.  this was the biggest one that i have caught yet and at this particular lake it is mostly what you catch.

Thanks. Wasn't trying to stir up any thing ( What Fish is Better). Just interesting to find out who fishes for what and where. A month ago our state forum was buzzing with disbelief when a guy from NY posted that he ate Yellow perch and  it was a target fish in his area. From some of the responses you would have thought he said he ate human flesh. Yellow perch, pickeral, sunfish (always), bass (50% of the time,) left on the ice for the eagles and crows

Hey slt give yellow perch a shot. Trust me you will like it. It is one my favorites along with crappies. It has been along time since i ate a pickeral. they are bony but we kept it to tryt it. me and pageman1j went to high school and college together. he did'nt know that i ice fished til about a week or so ago and we went fishin anytime we could. and he wanted to catch some fish on tip ups and they about one of the easiest fish to get on them since all they do is eat. but hey give yellow perch a shot. good luck and be safe out on the ice.
