Ice conditions this weekend
« on: Feb 04, 2022, 01:18 PM »
I’m thinking about going to Wethersfield cove on Sunday I’m just not sure how the ice conditions will be after all this rain

I’m looking to get out there soon as well. There’s a lot of ice there but I’m concerned the edges might be shot. Hoping the weekend hardens things up again.

I think you will have a hard time getting on. The river will be rising from all the rain.
Up almost 2 feet , will go higher not to mention the melt .

Saw a bunch if edges today and they were looking ugly.  Even Mt Tom has a ring of water on it.  I fished last night and was trecking through quite a few inches of standing water.

I’ll give the Cove a shot Saturday morning. The dock may get us far enough out there to get past the crappy edges.

Wish you good luck on your adventure to the cove. Ice should be moving up pretty good and never had much luck during those times.

Is the ice accessible at the cove? I know the river rising can really screw with the edges.

Looking to get out there tomorrow or Monday

There’s 3-4 groups/shantys out on the North end now. Not sure how they got there though as there’s 30 feet of open water in between the parking lot and the ice.

I was one of those groups. Got on around 7. Walked through 6"of water to get onto the floating docks. Boots are good and waterproof so I was nice and dry all day. Unfortunately the water came up another 6"throughout the day. I'm totally fine with wet socks getting into the truck though. Way better than first thing in the morning. River definitely needs to drop a foot or so before it's accessible again
The BIG one is just one flag away!

Species caught : largemouth, smallmouth,  bluegill, perch, White perch, crappie, trout, catfish, bowfin, pickerel, pike

Handful of decent crappie and perch. Nothing spectacular. A guy set up next to us got a nice 27-28" pike though. Thing has been eating well

East Twin was good to go today. Caught a couple real nice trout and a few pickerel. The rain melted any snow and froze solid. It made dragging the sled nice and easy!

Kinda want to hit the western eyes one night. The east gets hammered daily and its been a tough bite.

Tough bite out here but can nail a wall hanger so its worth a few skunkings.

I’m always tempted to make the drive  out West but walking off the ice at 9pm on a school night with a 90 minute drive home keeps me East of the river.

Coventry Lake had a good 8-9” today. Lots of groups out.

No Eyes to be seen but lots of decent Perch which is always fun. Was a one species day.
